Kansas running back James Sims has been suspended for the first three games of the 2012 season.  The announcement was made Monday by head coach Charlie Weis, citing a violation of team rules.

New USC RB Tre Madden injures knee

Tre Madden, the USC linebacker-turned-running back, injured his knee in practice without being touched.

The extent of the injury is unknown at this time, but reports are not optimistic.

Fantasy Spin:

Madden had made a splash in spring practice.  He was looking like he could win time as Curtis McNeal's top backup.

Henry Josey line for a redshirt?

Tailback Henry Josey, who suffered a horrendous knee injury last fall, has yet to have his second planned knee operation, this one to repair the anterior cruciate ligament.

"I think it might happen probably in the next two or three weeks," Pinkel said.

Giving what has become his customary answer to the question, Pinkel said that Josey has three years to play two — meaning he could redshirt this fall.

Fantasy Spin:

Josey burst onto the scene last fall before suffering the knee injury.  All signs are currently pointing towards a redshirt season.

James Franklin recovery coming along well

Between quarterback James Franklin's outlook about rehabilitating his injured shoulder and Mizzou team surgeon Pat Smith's report that the March 23 operation on Franklin was "a very good repair," MU coach Gary Pinkel said Tuesday that he is optimistic about the pace of Franklin's recovery.

"He's a pretty special guy; he'll heal quick," Pinkel said in his first remarks on Franklin since the operation. "He works tremendously hard in the training room. And so much of it is having a great attitude."

Fantasy Spin:

Franklin is one of the top dual threat QBs in the country.  However, this injury and the fact that he will be playing in the rough-and-tumble SEC this fall lowers his fantasy value somewhat.

Troy WR Corey Johnson blows out ACL

Troy wide receiver Corey Johnson blew out his ACL in spring practice and is in danger of missing the 2012 season.

QB Nick Isham Leaving La Tech

Quarterback Nick Isham is leaving Louisiana Tech via a transfer.  He starteda seven games a year ago, but has been listed as the backup to senior Colby Cameron this offseason.

Fantasy Spin:

Cameron figures to have a stronghold on the position in Isham's absence, and it an under-the-radar fantasy option to keep an eye on in Sonny Dykes offense.

D Johnson (SMU)

SMU WR Darius Johnson suspended

Per SportsDayDFW:

SMU coach June Jones informed star receiver Darius Johnson and linebacker Taylor Reed, who will both be seniors in the fall, before practice that they wouldn't be allowed to participate.

"You got to take care of business, not just football," Jones told a reporter, declining to elaborate on what led to the players being disciplined. "They're our two best players."

Jones said that he expected them back, but the timetable for their return is not determined. Jones said the players are eligible, but he decided last week to keep them out.

Fantasy Spin:

With a boatload of WR talent heading off to the NFL, Darius Johnson is one of the top college fantasy football prospects at his position.  This is strike two for Johnson (he has been suspended before).  Let's hope he can get his act together.

Christine Michael ahead of schedule on ACL recovery

Texas A&M running back Christine Michael took part in spring drills and looked surprisingly sharp considering he is recovering from an ACL injury suffered back in November.

“He’s way ahead of where I thought he would be,” Sumlin said of Michael’s rehabilitation from the knee injury. “I had to tell him to go sit down, and I look back up and he’s back in there.”

Fantasy Spin:

With Cyrus Gray moving on to the NFL, a healthy Michael figures to see plenty of carries in new head coach Kevin Sumlin's offense.  He could be joined in the backfield with Oklahoma transfer Brandon Williams, who plans to send a waiver to the NCAA to try and play immediately.

G Gilbert (SMU)

Garrett Gilbert gets another year of eligibility

Former Texas quarterback Garrett Gilbert has been approved for a NCAA injury waiver.  He will now have two years to play at his new school, SMU.

Fantasy Spin:

Gilbert is one to watch in the June Jones offensive attack.  He looked downright awful at times in Austin, but perhaps a change in venue - and in scheme - will do him some good.  He'll now have two years to iron things out.

Houston attempts April Fool's prank on all of College Fantasy Football

Oh, those zany Houston Cougars.  Via tweets and video interviews from head coach Tony Levine and running back Charles Sims, they announced that Sims would be moving over to the defensive side of the ball.

This sent a rage of emails into your friendly CFG email account.

Turns out it was all just an April Fool's joke.  Crisis averted.

Fantasy Spin:

Charles Sims is one of the more intriguing non-BCS college fantasy football running backs heading into 2012.  Let's keep it that way, Coogs.

Da'Rick Rogers back at practice

Earlier in the week there was speculation that Tennessee wide receiver Da'Rick Rogers might transfer out of the program.  Now, it appears he is back at practice.

Coach Derek Dooley was quoted in the Times Free Press:
"You know, it was something he had to do, he did it and he's back," Dooley said after practice. "He's doing good. He had a good day out there today. He had good energy, good job covering punts a couple times. He's obviously an extremely talented player. Glad he took care of what he had to do."

Fantasy Spin:

Is this the end of this story?  Stay tuned.

Florida Atlantic installing the spread, need athletic QB

With Carl Pelini on campus as Florida Atlantic's new head coach, look for the Owls to scrap Howard Schnellenberger's pro-style offense for the spread.

QB Steven Curtis may be have the best skill set to fit the new offense, but freshmen Grant Flessner and Colton Kane could push him for the job.

Fantasy Spin:

Former UCF quarterback Jeffery Godfrey is also likely transferring into the program, but he won't be eligible to play until 2013.  He seems to be tailor-made for this offensive scheme.
