Alabama's Heisman Trophy-winning tailback Mark Ingram underwent arthroscopic surgery this morning on his left knee, according to a statement by Crimson Tide coach Nick Saban.

Ingram will be out for Saturday's game against San Jose State and evaluated on a week-to-week basis after that. Alabama hosts Penn State on Sept. 11 and visits Duke on Sept. 18.

"It was a situation where everyone involved thought it would be better to take care of now, so he would not have any issues with it later in the season," Saban said.

Ingram, a junior, hurt his knee late in practice on Monday. Saban said this morning's minor surgery was successful and performed by Dr. Lyle Cain and Dr. James Andrews.

East Carolina University Head Football Coach Ruffin McNeill addressed the media today and had a lot to say about the quarterback situation, which remains unsettled.

"Dominique has experience under his belt having played in the Atlantic Coast Conference championship game and leading Fort Scott Community College to an 11-1 record. He is a talented, athletic quarterback who is also very bright and has caught on well. He understands the offense, too. He's going to get his lunch plate during camp and you see him in the film room. That work ethic and understanding has put him in the mix.

"Brad also has some movement to his game. He's not a standard, five-step drop, type of quarterback. When Brad sets his feet and throws, he reminds me a little bit of Cody Hodges and Kliff Kingsbury, who we had at Texas Tech."

"Initially, what you want is for one guy to stay in there and get most of the live reps during games. This year in this offense was the first time we've ever had a rotation. You hope to get one guy and let him lead it, learn and develop.

The Geek's Analysis:
Still too close to call here, but the momentum has been with Dominique Davis of late.

	Per OwlScoop.com:
There are several points of interest on the depth chart, most notably that sophomore Matt Brown is listed as the starter at tailback ahead of Bernard Pierce, the returning Mid-American Conference rookie of the year and the player the Owls are promoting as a Heisman Candidate. Pierce, who rushed for 1,361 yards and 16 touchdowns last season, has missed time recently with what Golden has described as a head injury, so it's unknown at this point if Pierce is listed behind Brown because he's still not healthy enough to practice. Friday's scrimmage was closed to the media, so it is also unknown if Pierce participated in that session.

Per DoubleTNation.com, Texas Tech head coach Tommy Tuberville has named Taylor Potts his starting quarterback:
"We have a very talented group of quarterbacks and are excited about every one of them," said Texas Tech head coach Tommy Tuberville. "The competition during camp between Taylor (Potts) and Steven (Sheffield) has been outstanding but at the end of the day we can only have one starter. Taylor has done a tremendous job and we feel like he has gotten better each and every day. There is no doubt that Steven has also improved during camp and will still be fighting to take over that starting job every day at practice. That kind of competition will only make us stronger as the season goes along."

The same report names Dasher the subject of “another ongoing investigation.”
Donnell told DNJ partner WSMV-TV that he loaned Dasher a total of $1,500 in exchange for a blank check for collateral. Two days after Donnell filed the report, Boss went to Murfreesboro Police Department in reference to some of his checks being stolen. Donnell said the checks Dasher gave him as collateral were from a Temple Terrace, Fla. Bank with Boss’ name on them. The checks were never cashed.

Southern Miss quarterback Austin Davis looked in midseason form during a recent scrimmage, completing 18-of-26 passes for 217 yards and three touchdowns. "Austin has made good decisions and shown he has a good grasp of the offense," said offensive coordinator Blake Anderson. "He's thrown the ball extremely well and kept the ball off the ground. I think he has thrown just a couple (three) picks since the first day of camp. I'm really pleased with that."

Martevious Young didn't see as much work, connecting on 6-of-10 passes for 74 yards.

"Martevious has had a good camp," said Anderson. "He knows the offense, and if he ends up on the field I feel good about our chances to win games.

The Geek's Analysis:
Reading between the lines (always a dangerous thing to do), it looks like Davis continues to hold the upper hand in this competition. He’s getting more reps, and looking sharp. He is a bit of a risky draft selection, but holds a ton of upside.
Senior Nate Costa and sophomore Darron Thomas continue to rotate with the No. 1 offense each day, and usually flip-flop during practice as well. There was a sense that Costa had an edge entering August, but that is no more.

“Both quarterbacks have done some good things,” position coach and offensive coordinator Mark Helfrich said. “Nate’s had a few more interceptions than we’d like.
“We felt like it was the best time to name him the starting quarterback,” Dykes said in a release. “There is still a possibility that it could change but he has done enough to distance himself from the other quarterbacks.
