From the Salt Lake Tribune:
The Utes’ workouts began this week in preparation for the 2010 season, but one football player isn’t quite up to speed to participate. Running back Matt Asiata, who applied for a medical hardship in hopes that the NCAA will grant him another season, still is recovering from knee surgery.

Asiata tore his ACL during the Utes’ 30-14 win over Louisville on Sept. 26.

“We’re going to be very, very cautious with him until the season starts,” Utah coach Kyle Whittingham said. “He is over halfway through the recovery and has made great progress, but we aren’t going to rush anything.”

CFG Analysis:

Technically, Asiata still needs to be granted another year of eligibility from the NCAA.  Even if he is cleared to play, one has to wonder how effective he will be on a bum knee.  These injuries usually take 2 years to truly get back to speed.
