Its looking more and more like Missouri might be the likely target of the Big Ten. There were rumors that Pitt might be looking into joining the Big Ten, but this current article states otherwise. Whatever happens with this expansion will have a real ripple effect. Besides the obvious question of “Who will replace (xyz) school in the conference they’re leaving,” there may be even more ripples. The Pac-10 has been having very covert talks with BYU and Utah to bring them into the conference. That would give the Pac-10 twelve teams and a conference championship. So if Utah and BYU leave the MWC, and Missouri leaves for the Big Ten, odds are that TCU leave for the Big XII, and Boise State leaves for the MWC. Well be keeping our ears open for more news as it comes out.
The Pitt to B10 rumor was a complete joke. The source was a sports radio host. Said he heard it from a Pitt player, and that it was going to be announced officially last week.
Can’t believe that became a story and gained traction.
Both the Pac-10 and Big Ten are contacting Texas, but this is a waste of time. There’s no way Texas leaves the Big XII. The teams that look like they should be on the move (somewhere in the future) remain to be Missouri (Big Ten), Utah (Pac-10), BYU (Pac-10), TCU (Big XII), and Boise State (MWC).
The Texas thing is all about money. When it comes to dollars, the Horns are stuck in a crap conference. Bad TV deal. Heck, Northwestern was on TV more than the Longhorns.
I doubt Texas-to-B10 happens, but it’s fun to talk about. Much more fun than talking about Pitt or Rutgers.
If they want to really rake in the $$$$, Texas should go the independent route like ND. They could pull it off.

The findings of the latest expansion report by the Big Ten shows that expansion is in the best interest of the league as a whole. A source for the article was quoted as saying, “The point was: We can all get richer if we bring in the right team or teams.” Five schools were analyzed: Missouri, Notre Dame, Pittsburgh, Syracuse and Rutgers.

You would think that the conference realignment talks would leave the Big XII reacting to who ever was taken from them. Instead, it looks like their being proactive. The Big XII is looking back to its Southwest Conference ties and trying to snag Arkansas. Its going to be interesting to see how all this stuff unfolds over the next couple of years…
Dan Beebe is the moron that started this mess. There is no reason why he shouldn’t be able to get the Big 12 at least a competitive TV deal that would at least make teams think twice about leaving.
