Running with the Pac - Week 10 Pac-10 Preview

WEEKLY PAC-10 PREVIEW
“Heeeeerrrrreeeee’s Dawgie!” Where there were once five, there are now only four horses in the Raise for the Roses. After this week’s action the field will have at least one more team sent to the glue factory as Oregon and California square off in the weekend’s game with the biggest stakes. Lame duck coach Tyrone Willingham will travel to the Coliseum to face the Trojans, but will his trip back to Seattle be a death march or a victory celebration? The last 2 years the Huskies have been right in the game with USC, but will the third time be the charm? The She Devils limp into Corvallis for another Pac-10 smack down. Toby Gerhart just had his birthday wish come true, and now the worst rush defense in the Pac-10 has magically appeared in front of him.

The injury bug is popping up again around the league. The key players that are dinged up with no confirmed extent are Cal RB Jahvid Best, Oregon RB Jeremiah Johnson, USC RB Joe McKnight, and Washington TE Kavario Middleton. Arizona State QB Rudy Carpenter has been taken off the injury list but understand, he probably won’t be 100% for quite some time. Another player taken off the injury list is Washington QB Jake Locker. The Dawgfather’s sources in Montlake say that Jake is done for the year, so don’t hold your breath hoping he will play in the Apple Cup!

WEEKLY GEEK INJURY ROUNDUP
Unfortunately, it was another weekend marred by major injuries.  The running back position was hit particularly hard, with big names such as Tyrell Sutton, Andre Anderson, and Antone Smith going down.

See our Week 10 Injury Roundup after the jump.

Injuries will be updated in this space throughout the week.

Week 10 - Fantasy Rankings - TE’s, DEF’s and PK’s

By Todd DeVries - October 30, 2008

Brandon Pettigrew

WEEKLY GEEK RANKINGS - TE, DEF & PK
Not much to say about tight ends, defenses and kickers.  They’re the necessary evil of college fantasy football.  There are a handful of good tight ends like Oklahoma State’s Brandon Pettigrew (picture, Icon SMI) that you plug into your lineup every week.  Defenses - just play the one with the best matchup.  Kickers, well, don’t get me started on kickers…

Week 10 - Fantasy WR Rankings

Jeremy Maclin

WEEKLY GEEK WR RANKINGS
With all the hubbub of Dez Bryant, Michael Crabtree and Jordan Shipley making noise in the B12 conference, is it possible Jeremy Maclin is getting lost in the shuffle?  The speedster is coming off an 11-134-2 receiving output last week, and Saturday faces a Baylor defense that will have its hands full.

Where does Maclin (pictured, Icon SMI) stack up with his B12 brethren in this week’s WR rankings?  See after the jump…

Week 10 - Fantasy RB Rankings

Kendall Hunter

WEEKLY GEEK RB RANKINGS
There’s a new man at the top of our rankings!  Oklahoma State’s Kendall Hunter is the latest in a long line of Cowboy running backs who have made a fantasy impact.  Hunter (photo, Icon SMI) nearly eclipsed 200 yards from scrimmage last week in Austin.  This week, in the friendly confines of Boone Pickens Stadium, he takes on a below average Iowa State defense.

WEEKLY GEEK QB RANKINGS
Todd Reesing leads his Jayhawks against Kansas State in a battle for state bragging rights.  It’s one of many Big 12 games that should keep the scoreboard operators busy on Saturday.  Where does the talented KU QB (photo, Icon SMI) fall in our weekly rankings?

WEEKLY GEEK TV SCHEDULE
There are only two games this weekend where two ranked teams face off, but boy are they BIG ONES.  In a college fantasy dream matchup, undefeated #1 Texas travels down to Lubbock to take on undefeated #7 Texas Tech.  The other monster game with huge SEC and possible national title implications is #8 Florida and #6 Georgia.  There’s no doubt we’re going to be glued to our TV sets from 3:30pm ET until about midnight.

Groundhog Day

Here in week 10 of the Waiver Wire Grab Bag, it feels a litle bit like Groundhog Day.  There are several players we have mentioned in this space time and time again that continue to be available in many U-Sports leagues.  They are highlighted after the jump.  We’ve also added a few new names to the bunch, but are the new entries just One Hit Wonders?

Running with the Pac - Week 9 Pac-10 Recap

ACDC

by The Dawgfather
Contributor to CollegeFootballGeek.com

Week 9 was an ugly fantasy week in the Pac-10. Not many big numbers being thrown around, but there were some solid performances that helped their teams to victory. Some teams came up big and remained in the Race for the Roses, while other teams continued their free fall into the abyss of futility. The USC defense held their ground against the advance of the Arizona offense like King Leonidas held his ground against the advancing Persians. California started their game in an ugly manner, but it was only surpassed by the ugly play of the UCLA offense. The Sun Devils’ woes continue, and Dennis Erickson must have had AC/DC’s “Highway to Hell” playing on the bus ride after the game. I wonder which team old “Dirty Dennis” will leave for now? And Washington fans (photo, Icon SMI) have had enough in Seattle saying “Bye-bye Ty.” Is there anything I left out?

Lineup Alert - Tuesday and Sunday Night Games

By Todd DeVries - October 26, 2008

Nick Nolte

If you’ve been with us the past couple months, you know the drill.  When the haggard Nick Nolte appears, there are scheduling quirks to bring to your attention.

This week, we have two Tuesday nighters with Buffalo visiting Ohio and Houston visiting Marshall.  The only Thursday game of significance is South Florida at Cincinnati, and there is no Friday night game.  Sunday night offers East Carolina at Central Florida.  All in all, it’s a pretty weak slate.  But Saturday will be chock full of action.

Set your lineups accordingly.
