The Participants: Darius Darks, Marquis Hamilton, Sedrick Johnson, Darius Reynolds
The Skinny: Darius Darks has injured his hamstring and the word is that he will miss at least the first two games of the season. The coaches are hoping he can knock off enough rust to be ready to play full time in Week 5’s game against Kansas State. This leaves a large door open for a new projected leading WR. Hamilton and Johnson were listed as starters at the other two WR positions, and Darius Reynolds was Darks’ back-up. We just won’t know how the ball will get spread around until the season starts.
The Leader: Marquis Hamilton / Sedrick Johnson / Darius Reynolds
The Participants: Dwight Jones, Greg Little, Jheranie Boyd, Joshua Adams
The Skinny: Who will be the top WRs for the Tarheals this year? Good question! As of now the only player that has emerged as a starter is Greg Little. The other WRs are still in a pack that doesn’t have any distinctive leaders. Its safe to say that you should lower your expectations for North Carolina WRs this year.
The Leader: Greg Little
The Participants: Edward Britton, Eric Ward, Rashad Hawk
The Skinny: Edward Britton has locked down this position. His speed will be used to stretch the defense and give Taylor Potts the opportunity to show off his big arm.
The Leader: Edward Britton
The Participants: Tramain Swindall, Adam James, Cornelius Douglas
The Skinny: Swindall is the best player of this group. The coaches have been upset with his lack of hard work and they have promoted Jones to #1a and Douglas to #1b. This is mainly a motivational tool but if Swindall can’t find a way to mentally handle the demotion, he may remained buried on the depth chart.
The Leader: Adam James / Cornelius Douglas
The Participants: Detron Lewis, Austin Zouzalik
The Skinny: Detron Lewis will be one of the main targets for 2009. But Austin Zouzalik has been on a tear since fall camp opened. He could steal snaps from Lewis, or if Swindall’s problems continue to persist the coaches might move Zouzalik to the H WR position. If Zouzalik does get on the field at the other insider WR spot, don’t expect him to give it up.
The Leader: Detron Lewis
The Participants: Lyle Leong, Alex Torres, Jacoby Franks
The Skinny: Torres has begun to pull away in this fiercely competed battle by catching everything thrown his way. As of now Franks has a slight lead over Leong, but we like Leong’s play making ability to help him rise to the #2 position. As long as Torres continues his level of play, expect to see him lining up in Crabtree’s old position come game 1.
The Leader: Alex Torres
The Participants: Collin Franklin, Derrick Catlett
The Skinny: As of right now Franklin is being listed as the starter for week 1.
The Leader: Collin Franklin
The Participants: Ladarius Green, Luke Aubrey
The Skinny: There isn’t a lot of news coming out of Cajun Camp, but the unofficial scrimmage stats don’t lie. After two scrimmages Green has yet to make a single reception while Aubrey has pulled in 5 receptions for 61 yards.
The Leader: Surprisingly, Luke Aubrey appears to have the edge. Stay tuned.
The Participants: Jamal Mosley, Wilson Youman, Tracy Moore
The Skinny: The coaches are beginning to see many similarities between last year’s starting TE Brandon Pettigrew and sophomore Jamal Mosley. It is looking more like Mosley will be the man, but don’t be surprised is WR/TE hybrid Tracy Moore works his way into specific passing packages.
The Leader: Jamal Mosley
