LOW HANGING FRUIT
No-brainer free agent adds.
QB Cody Fajardo, Nevada
Fajardo has been a popular conversation on CFG since last spring. Now it appears the starting job is his. He's a superior running talent with a very bright future. He'll be inconsistent this fall, but has major upside.
WR Cole Beasley, SMU
Beasley was a preseason Top 20 wide receiver who suffered a mid-season injury and was dropped in many leagues. He returned to the field last week and made an instant impact, catching 10 balls for 134 yards and a score. We've noticed Beasley being available in multiple leagues. Grab him if he's out there.
OTHER OPTIONS
These prospects are worth a look.
QB Kolton Browning, UL-Monroe
Browning was a preseason sleeper that had a terrible out of conference slate (Florida State, TCU and Iowa). We preached patience to those who pulled the trigger on Browning on draft day, noting that Browning likely wouldn't make much noise until conference play. He didn't do much in the Sun Belt opener, but last week he exploded for 29 fantasy points.
QB Blaine Gautier, UL-Lafayette
Gautier was a popular free agent pick up in many leagues a couple weeks ago after stringing together two big performances. Then, once fantasy owners had mustered up the confidence to thrust him into their starting lineups, he was hurt and missed the majority of the Troy game (and subsequently dropped in most leagues). Last week, he burst back onto the scene with a 29 fantasy point outing. If he can stay healthy, he should continue to post good numbers for the next four weeks before two bye weeks sandwiched by a trip to Arizona.
RB Stefphon Jefferson, Nevada
With Mike Ball still hampered by a bum ankle, Jefferson had put together two straight 100-yard games. Coach Chris Ault could pull the plug on Jefferson at any time and go back to Ball or Lampford Mark, but until then Jefferson is a solid pick up.
RB D.D. Kyles, Middle Tennessee
Kyles is off the radar a bit after being on a bye last week. He has fantasy value as long as Benny Cunningham remains sidelined with an injury. Over the past two games, Kyles has put up 106 and 95 rushing yards and two touchdowns.
RB Adonis Thomas, Toledo
Much like Cole Beasley above, Thomas was a preseason Top 20 fantasy running back who broken his arm early in the season, and dropped in many leagues. He is beginning to practice this week, and if all goes well could find his way back onto the field very soon. He's a risky pick up at this point as there's no guarantee he's healthy and Morgan Williams has looked good in his absence. Still, if you're in a deep league and can afford the roster room, he's an interesting option.
RB Javonti Greene, Eastern Michigan
Greene had been injured for the past few weeks. Dominique White filled in nicely while he was out. Greene was put back in the fold on Saturday and rushed for 96 yards and 3 touchdowns. White is still seeing plenty of carries, but when the match up is right Go Greene.
RB Donte Harden, Ohio
Since returning from an injury, Harden has scored 17 and 16 fantasy points. He has a few nice match ups the rest of the way, and is someone to consider in deeper leagues.
WR Cody Hoffman, BYU
Hoffman had a big game last week against Oregon State, catching 9 balls for 162 yards and a score. Next up is Idaho State. Juicy...
WR Nick Grigsby, San Jose State
In the last two games, Grigsby has caught 23 balls for 218 yards. He won't find his way into the endzone often (no scores in 2011), but makes an intriguing option in PPR
WR Cody Wilson, Central Michigan
Wilson has been one of the bigger busts of the season. But perhaps he has finally awakened after a 9 catch, 130 yard performance last week. At the very least, Wilson is someone to keep an eye on. He's proven that he's got the talent to produce.
TE Clay Sears, Tulsa
Tight ends come and go on a weekly basis. Last week's top dog was Sears, who caught a whopping 9 balls for 105 yards and 2 touchdowns. Could it be the start of a nice run, or just a one-hit wonder? In the world of college fantasy tight ends, one can never be sure but he's worth a roll of the dice if you need help.
