Each week there are players who live up to their lofty player ranking and put up a big number. And then there are those fantasy prospects who vastly under-perform. CFG's Mike Bainbridge presents you with this week's Champs and Chumps.
CHAMPS
Quarterbacks:
1.
James Franklin, Missouri- Franklin had a solid day through the air with 289 yards passing and 3 TDs. What set him apart was his 84 yards and yet another 3 TDs on the ground.
2.
Ryan Tannehill, Texas A&M- The senior QB really took out his frustrations of the past two weeks by throwing it all over the place against Baylor. 470 total yards of offense, including 6 TDs.
3.
Kellen Moore, Boise State- Kellen Moore vs. Colorado State. Need I say anymore? 349 yards through the air, and 4 TDs.
Running Backs:
1.
Jasmin Hopkins, Northern Illinois- Hopkins was part of a rushing onslaught that the Huskies put on Western Michigan. He alone tallied 122 yards and 3 TDs.
2.
Trent Richardson, Alabama- The junior RB truly belongs in the NFL right now. Richardson is a man amongst boys, as he rushed for 183 yards and 4 scores.
3.
Doug Martin, Boise State- Martin only ran for 53 yards in the final three quarters. Problem is, he ran for 135 alone in the first quarter; finished with 3 TDs.
Wide Receivers:
1.
Ryan Swope, Texas A&M- 206 yards, 4 TDs. Just…WOW.
2.
Sammy Watkins, Clemson- Just a freshman, Watkins is making his case for one of the best players in college football. 345 all-purpose yards along with 3 TD’s is quite a performance. He is the No. 1 option for Boyd and a priority start from here on out.
3.
Ryan Broyles, Oklahoma- Just another day at the office for Broyles; 217 receiving yards and 2 TDs. He ended up breaking the FBS receptions record in the process.
Tight Ends:
1.
Stanford TE’s: As a group they continue to be the No. 1 options for Luck. Coby Fleener and Levine Toilolo combined to catch 3 TDs for over 160 yards.
2.
Matt Furstenburg, Maryland: This could be a hot TE pick for upcoming weeks, as new starting quarterback C.J. Brown targeted Furstenburg early and often. He finished with 104 yards and 2 TDs.
3.
Clay Sears, Tulsa: In only one week, Sears produced more touchdowns (2) against UAB than he had all year long. Add in 105 yards receiving, and he could make his way onto the CFG rankings for next week.
CHUMPS
Quarterbacks:
1.
Seth Doege, Texas Tech- Doege put up the yards (461), but 1 TD in 63 pass attempts? Got to do better than that.
2.
Chazz Anderson, Buffalo- After putting up nearly 350 yards and 2 TDs the prior week, Anderson came back to earth; just 85 total yards with zero scores.
3.
Corey Robinson, Troy- Sophomore slump??? 129 yards through the air, against Louisiana-Monroe nonetheless. I guess that’s what happens when you don’t have a run game.
Running Backs:
1.
Lamar Miller, Miami- North Carolina forced Jacory Harris to beat them, as they did not let Miller get going at all. He finished with 29 yards and a 1.6 YPC average.
2.
Ray Graham, Pittsburgh- This could end up being a bad situation for Graham’s owners if the Panthers cannot find a hint of a passing game. Graham was bottled up for just 56 total yards.
3.
Branden Oliver, Buffalo- Just a bad day all around for the Bulls offense. Oliver only managed 62 yards on the ground, which is a measly number compared to some of the days he has posted this season.
Wide Receivers:
1.
Robert Woods, USC- 36 yards receiving is not going to cut it for the No. 5 ranked wideout. If USC does not find more weapons, defenses will be solely focused on Woods for the remainder of the season.
2.
Geraldo Boldewijn, Boise State- After coming back from suspension last week, Boldewijn caught 2 TD passes. This week? 1 catch, 6 yards.
3.
Rishard Matthews, Nevada- The three-game touchdown streak ended for Matthews. Following his 220-yard performance a week before, the senior wideout was only able to put up 44 yards in the encore.
Tight Ends:
1.
Evan Rodriguez, Temple- The Owls really did not have to throw the ball much in their blowout win over Buffalo. Rodriguez did not post a catch.
