Each week there are players who live up to their lofty player ranking and put up a big number. And then there are those fantasy prospects who vastly under-perform. Here they are folks, the weekend’s Champs and Chumps.
CHAMPS
Quarterback
1.
Bryant Moniz, Hawaii – Bryant woke up from his slumber in a big way, throwing for 424 passing yards and 7 touchdowns against UC Davis. He also rushed for 50 yards.
2.
Robert Griffin, Baylor – RG3 did it again, this time shredding Rice for 338 passing yards, 5 touchdown passes, 51 rushing yards and a rush TD. He has more TD passes (13) than incompletions (12) on the season.
3.
Denard Robinson, Michigan – Rushed for 200 yards and 3 scores against San Diego State. Now, if only Shoelace could actually pass the ball, we'd really have something here!
Running Backs
1.
Bernard Pierce, Temple – Pierce destroyed Maryland for 5 rushing touchdowns and 149 rushing yards.
2.
LaMichael James, Oregon – LMJ rushed for a ridiculous 288 yards and 2 scores. He is averaging 9.4 yards per carry on the season.
3.
Lance Dunbar, North Texas – Reports of Dunbar's demise were premature as the Mean Green RB accounted for 279 total yards from scrimmage and a TD against Indiana.
Wide Receivers
1.
Deon Long, New Mexico - Deon who? This Lobo came out of relative obscurity to blow up for 9 catches, 209 yards and 3 touchdowns. That's 44 fantasy points, folks.
2.
Ryan Broyles, Oklahoma – With Kenny Stills sidelined with a concussion, Broyles stepped up against Mizzou to catch 13 balls for 154 yards and 3 touchdowns.
3.
Mohamed Sanu, Rutgers – Sanu caught 16 balls for 176 yards and 2 touchdowns against Ohio.
Tight Ends
1.
Ryan Otten, San Jose State – Otten has long been one of our favorite small school sleepers. After nursing an injury early in the year, he came through with a 6-98-2 explosion against New Mexico State.
2.
Vance McDonald, Rice – McDonald put up a 6-59-2 statline against Baylor on Saturday.
3.
Austin Seferian-Jenkins, Washington – The big-time freshman produced a big game for the second time this season, catching 4 balls for 54 yards and 2 scores against Cal.
CHUMPS
Quarterback
1.
Trent Steelman, Army – Against San Diego State and Northwestern the past two weeks, he totaled 65 fantasy points. Then on Saturday, against lowly Ball State, he put up a measly 6.
2.
Marqueis Gray, Minnesota – 53 yards passing and 23 yards rushing against North Dakota State? It's no wonder they pulled him late in the game for freshman Max Shortell.
3.
Chuckie Keeton, Utah State - Followed up 24 and 26 fantasy point performances with a 7 point stinker against Colorado State.
Running Backs
1.
Michael Dyer, Auburn – 7 fantasy points against Florida Atlantic? Really?
2.
Cyrus Gray, Texas A&M – Only tallied up 44 total yards against Oklahoma State on Saturday.
3.
Joseph Randle, Oklahoma State – Like Gray above, Randle was held in check in what many thought would be a offensive shootout. Unfortunately, most of the offense was through the air.
Wide Receivers
1.
Michael Floyd, Notre Dame – Pitt's pass defense was one of the worst in the country heading into Saturday. Did Pink Floyd take advantage? Nope. 4-27-0.
2.
Alshon Jeffery, South Carolina - He followed up his 2-35-0 performance last week against Navy with a woeful 2-34-0. Time to get officially concerned.
3.
Patrick Edwards, Houston – A 4-76-0 statline against Georgia State isn't good enough for hungry fantasy owners.
Tight Ends
1.
Jacob Pederson, Wisconsin– Just when he had risen to the top of the fantasy food chain, he puts up a 1-11-0 stink bomb against South Dakota State.
