To help you piece together the most dominating lineup each week, the crack staff over at CFG cobbles together our ever-popular Start 'Em, Sit 'Em feature.  We try to avoid stating the obvious in this column, and attempt to highlight some players that might not be top of mind.  Therefore, you're unlikely to see any "start Landry Jones versus Tulsa" nonsense in here.  As a staff, we also try to each find unique players to avoid repetitiveness and cover as many prospects as possible.

While our Week 1 FFCPI rankings were pretty darn accurate, the same couldn't be said for some of our Start 'Em - Sit 'Em plays.  This week we're roaring back with a vengeance!  And from perusing some of the selections below, it appears there's some dissension in the CFG ranks on what to do with Robert Turbin.  For the record, I'm on the "Start" side of that debate.

Enough talk, let's get to it...

TODD DEVRIES

BCS Only Start:

QB- Kain Colter, Northwestern vs. Eastern Illinois – No Dapper Dan Persa, no problem.  Colter played a solid game last week in leading his team to the win at Boston College.   He connected on 14 or 24 passes for 197 yards, and rushed for 71 yards and a score on 23 totes.  Eastern Illinois shouldn’t pose much of a threat for the Wildcat offense.  Expect Colter to rack up 20+ fantasy points.

RB- Cierre Wood, Notre Dame vs. Michigan –Lost in all the uproar of the Fighting Irish’s loss to USF last week was the productivity of Wood.  He rushed the ball 21 times for 104 yards and a TD, and also racked up 44 yards receiving.  The Michigan defense isn’t exactly a juggernaut and I expect Wood to have another nice outing.  He’d make a nice flex option in All-FBS formats.

WR – A.J. Jenkins, Illinois vs. South Dakota State- Jenkins hauled in 11 balls for 148 yards and a score last week against Arkansas State.  This week, the Illini face South Dakota State.  Look for him to get in the endzone again.

Non BCS Start:

QB- Kolton Browning, UL-Monroe vs. Grambling State- Browning is one of the top QBs in the Sun Belt.  He didn’t show it last week as he was squashed in Tallahassee at the hands of the mighty Seminoles.  This week, the sledding should be much easier with Grambling coming to town.  Against a similar type foe last year (SE Louisiana), Browning went off for 30+ fantasy points.

RB- Brandon Oliver, Buffalo vs. Stony Brook – Oliver lead the nation in touches from scrimmage last week with 39.  That translated into 127 total yards and a score – not bad considering he was up against a stout Pitt defense.  While he won’t likely see that type of workload against the Sea Wolves (yes, Sea Wolves), he should still be good for 100+ yards and a TD.

WR- Dwayne Frampton, Arkansas State vs. Memphis – Frampton quietly caught 5 balls for 99 yards against Illinois last week.  He should be able to get into the endzone against Memphis on Saturday.

BCS Only Sit:

QB- James Franklin, Missouri vs. Arizona State – Franklin had a disappointing debut from an X’s and O’s standpoint last week, leading his team to only 17 points against what should have been an overmatched Miami (OH) defense.  A Friday night trip to Arizona State does not seem like a great place for him to get his act together.

RB- Silas Redd, Penn State- Redd is probably the most “talented” running back to come out of Happy Valley since Larry Johnson.  He had a nice debut last week against the Larry Birds (Indiana State).  Something tells me the Alabama defense won’t be quite as forgiving.

WR- Jeremy Ebert, Northwestern vs. Eastern Illinois- While I like his QB (Kain Colter) as sort of a sneaky play this week, I’m not thrilled with the notion of having Ebert in my starting lineup.  He’s Dan Persa’s go-to guy, but he doesn’t appear to hold the same clout with Colter.  Not yet, anyway.  Since Persa went down to injury last November, Ebert has put up 4, 6, 5, and 7 fantasy points.  With Persa last fall, he put up 19, 9, 16, 23, 21, 18, 3, 25, 14, and 15.  Big difference.

Non BCS Sit:

QB- Ryan Radcliff, Central Michigan vs. Kentucky- The Chippewa QB got off to a flying start to the season last week against South Carolina State, throwing two bombs in the first half for TDs.  Then he fell off the map.  For the game, he only wound up with 168 passing yards, and 112 of them were on those two scoring tosses.  This week the Chips travel to SEC land to take on Kentucky.  While the Wildcats looked bad last week against WKU, they did look alright defensively.  Bench Radcliff.

RB- Robbie Rouse, Fresno State vs. Nebraska- Rouse was able to must up a 17-86-1 statline against Cal last week, but traveling to Lincoln is a whole different animal.  Play it safe this week by keeping “The Mouse” on your bench and starting a RB with more upside.

WR- Kevin Bolden, Southern Miss vs. Marshall – Bolden is recovering from concussion-like symptoms and isn’t a sure go for this weekend’s game.  No need to risk plugging him into your lineup, even if the match up is a good one.  Look elsewhere and hope that Bolden’s back to 100 percent soon.

KEVIN MOUNT

BCS Only Start:

QB- Tyler Bray, Tennessee vs. Cincinnati – The Bearcats aren’t exactly known for their defense.  They’ll have their hands full with young Mr. Bray and his pair of wideouts, Justin Hunter and Da’Rick Rogers.

RB- Marcus Coker Iowa vs. Iowa State- This game is all about redemption for Coker as he looked awful last week against Tennessee Tech. He couldn’t hold onto the football and looked hesitant, but that should change this week against Iowa State. Look for a heavy dose of Coker this week and much improved numbers.

WR- Justin Hunter Tennessee vs. Cincy- This kid looks special and could have a big day against the Bearcats. This contest could be a high scoring, back and forth affair with plenty of passing on both sides. Another trip to the end zone is likely for Hunter this week.

Non BCS Start:

QB- Ryan Aplin Arkansas St vs. Memphis- Aplin and the entire Arkansas State offense disappointed against Illinois in Week one. They should bounce back nicely with Memphis on the slate this week. Aplin should be able to find plenty of open receivers and may even throw in a rushing touchdown for good measure. Owners should feel confident starting Aplin in Week two.

RB- Robert Turbin Utah State vs. Weber State- Turbin and the whole Utah State offense looked tremendous last week in a heart breaking loss to Auburn. He appears to be fully healthy and showed the power that makes him so tough to stop. It should be considerably easier for Turbin this week with Weber State on the schedule. Look for a 100-yard effort and a score or two from this bruiser.

WR- Patrick Edwards Houston vs. North Texas- Edwards killed many a fantasy owner with his dreadful one catch for 16 yards performance last week versus UCLA. We are thinking this was an aberration and that he will return to being one of the top wide receivers in college fantasy football. Look for a strong bounce back performance from Edwards this Saturday.

BCS Only Sit:

QB- Andrew Luck Stanford vs. Duke- This has more to do with who Stanford is playing than it does to do with Luck himself. He is facing a bad Duke team that just lost to Richmond and he may not be called upon to do much in this game. He should be ok, but I would not expect anything spectacular from Luck in Week 2.

RB- Spencer Ware LSU vs. Northwestern State- This game is cup cake city and Ware may only play the first half in this one. He will probably score a touchdown, but not much more as other LSU backs are used in this blowout. Fantasy owners may be wise to save Ware for another week with a stronger opponent.

WR- Tavon Austin West Virginia vs. Norfolk State- Austin had an extremely disappointing effort in Week one with only three catches for 32 yards. It may take time for him to adjust to the new offense and find a rhythm with Geno Smith. It also doesn’t bode well that Austin probably won’t play too long against Norfolk State.

Non BCS Sit:

QB- Bryan Ellis UAB vs. Florida- This will be the first game of the season for Ellis as UAB had a bye in Week one and this is not a good defense to start out against. The Florida defense looks to be back with a vengeance under new coach Will Muschamp and could be very disruptive to Ellis and the UAB offense. Look for other options if available before putting Ellis into your lineup this week.

RB- Adonis Thomas Toledo vs. Ohio State- Even with all the off-season upheaval at Ohio State, one thing has remained the same….the Buckeyes play defense. Thomas is a very good fantasy option in most weeks, but a match up with Ohio State might render him down to average at best.

WR- Cody Wilson Central Michigan vs. Kentucky- Wilson was just ok in the first week of the season and could be just as mediocre this week against Kentucky. The Kentucky defense is pretty good and could cause problems for Wilson and the Central Michigan offense all day long.

JOE ARPASI

BCS Only Start:

QB- Tanner Price Wake Forest vs. NC State: BIG DISCLAIMER: Price makes the list if the reports that he will play hold up. Price threw for 289 yards on only 18 completions for three touchdowns against Syracuse in week one. Now he gets NC State who gave up 295 passing yards to Liberty in week one. Add in the fact that all of Wake Forrest’s touchdowns in week one came through the air only adds up to a great fantasy match-up. If you’re in a deep league keep your eyes on the player news to see if Price is a go for this week.

RB- Ray Graham Pittsburgh vs. Maine: We learned a very important message in week one about the new Pitt offense, they don’t have the same style of talent that the Tulsa offense had with head coach Todd Graham. This Pitt squad is built to pound you on the ground and supplement the ground game with the passing game. Expect to see more of Ray Graham being featured as the heart of the offense. His 29 carries for 201 yards and three touchdowns last week is just a sign of what’s to come this week.

WR- Marvin McNutt Iowa at Iowa State: McNutt had a big performance in week one hauling in six passes for 140 yards and two touchdowns. Week two brings the big rivalry with Iowa State, a team who gave up 181 yards on 15 completions to Northern Iowa in week one. McNutt always seems to shine against Iowa State. With running back Marcus Coker looking sluggish running the ball, don’t be surprised if Iowa goes to the air more than expected.

Non BCS Start:

QB- Brett Smith Wyoming vs. Texas State: Here’s an under the radar selection. The Wyoming offense is in a state of change, but it appears they have found a gunslinger in JC-transfer Smith. Against Weber State in week one he passed for 294 yards, three scores, and one interception to go along with 44 yards rushing and another score. Texas State is a more athletic team which will score points against the Cowboys, and that should set the stage for another 30+ attempt game for Smith.

RB- Bernard Pierce Temple at Akron: Pierce looks to be back on track to being THE man in the Temple offense. Against Villanova last week he toted the rock 20 times for 147 rushing yards and three touchdowns. Akron is one of the bottom feeders in the MAC so Temple won’t have much trouble racking up yards once again this week. The sad thing to say is that ‘Nova provided the same amount of challenge as Akron will give Temple due to the heated rivalry that Temple and ‘Nova have with one another.

WR- Robert Herron Wyoming vs. Texas State: Piggybacking on the selection of Wyoming quarterback Brett Smith as a start option, Herron was the top pass target of Smith’s in week one. This once again is an under the radar selection. Although Wyoming is playing a I-AA school, Texas State has plenty of speed on offense and they will put up points in this contest. Look for a shootout, which is a great stage for Herron to continue his role as primary pass target.

BCS Only Sit:

QB- Stephen Garcia South Carolina at Georgia: Garcia put up decent fantasy points in week one, but this is a bit deceiving. He only accounted for 166 total yards and his fantasy value was carried by his three total touchdowns. His passing was off against East Carolina and the coaching staff decided to lean on the running game. Expect Georgia to play with a renewed vigor in this week’s match-up and they will do everything they can to make things difficult on Garcia. In the end, the South Carolina may become the Marcus Lattimore show once again this week.

RB- Lyle McCombs Connecticut at Vanderbilt: McCombs had a monster week one performance bashing his way to 141 rushing yards and four touchdowns. His feature back role in the offense last week was largely in part due to a (at the time) unreleased ankle injury to D.J. Shoemate. Shoemate will be back in the line-up this week against Vandy. Both rushers were vying for the starting job before the injury and you can expect split carries early in this one and if one guy gets hot the other will be left watching. There’s just too much risk involved with playing McCombs to make it worth placing him in your starting line-up.

WR- Juron Criner Arizona at Oklahoma State: Criner had a great week one showing by pulling in six receptions for 107 yards and two scores. During the summer there were health concerns with Criner involving an undisclosed illness. Criner has missed practices in the early part of this week due to an undisclosed illness, and of the time of writing this article there are rumors that he may not have traveled with the team to the game. Even if Criner does travel and plays, you can’t take the health concerns out of the picture. The safe thing to do here is to leave him on the bench and not second guess the decision.

Non BCS Sit:

QB- Chazz Anderson Buffalo vs. Stony Brook: This is a cautionary selection. Anderson put up nice numbers against Pittsburgh in week one, racking up 292 total yards and one total touchdown. With a weaker opponent on the slate you might picture a big day for Anderson, but this is a completely different game. Buffalo had to throw more from behind against Pitt, while they will surely highlight the running game this week against Stony Brook. Running back Brandon Oliver will most likely steal many scoring opportunities from Anderson and keep Anderson’s fantasy output in check for the week.

RB- Robert Turbin Utah State vs. Weber State: Turbin looked good against a tough Auburn defense in week one, carrying the ball 22 times for 70 yards and two scores. While Turbin is not an automatic sit candidate, there is the worry of split carries in this week’s match-up with Weber State. Although Turbin was the leading rusher, running back Kerwynn Williams ran the ball ten times and quarterback Chuckie Keeton ran the ball eight times in the highly contested game with Auburn. Don’t be surprised if Utah State spreads the ball around in what should be an easy win this week.

WR- Justin Hardy East Carolina vs. Virginia Tech: Hardy didn’t receive much attention in the preseason as a primary receiving weapon for the Pirates. But he showed up in a big way in week one against South Carolina by collecting 11 passes for 91 yards and a score. But there is one major difference between week one and this week. Wide receiver Michael Bowman sat out week one due to suspension and he will be back in the line-up this week. Many expect Bowman to be the #2 receiver behind Lance Lewis, and if that holds up this week you can expect a major drop in Hardy’s fantasy value.
