The 13
th week of the college fantasy season is upon us and with it comes the Championship week of the playoffs in many leagues. Here is a look at some players who might fill in nicely for owners in need of a potential diamond in the rough for those owners playing in their respective tile games.
David Graves QB Hawaii vs. Tulane:
Graves played a great second half last week against Fresno State, throwing for 200 yards and adding three total scores. He looks to be the guy to fill in for the injured Bryant Moniz and could produce some nice numbers down the stretch. This sophomore should be able to move the ball this week against Tulane and post solid fantasy numbers in the process. Graves is a bit risky, but could pay off nicely in Championship week.
Keith Wenning QB Ball State vs. Toledo:
Wenning is averaging 297 yards passing in his last four games and has added 11 total scores over that period. He will likely be called upon to throw the ball often to keep pace with an explosive Toledo offense. This could turn into one of those good old MAC shootouts with Wenning being highly involved in the fireworks. Look for a nice stat line out of Wenning in Week 13.
Marshall Lobbestael QB Washington State vs. Washington:
Lobbestael will likely be back in the saddle for Washington State this week after Connor Halliday suffered a lacerated kidney last week against Utah. This senior does have four games with over 300 yards passing this season and has proven quite capable under center. He could have a big Apple Cup game against a Washington pass defense that comes in ranked 112
th in the country. Look for around 300 yards and a couple of scores from this Cougar in Week 13.
Latavius Murray RB UCF vs. UTEP:
With Brynn Harvey injured and Ronnie Weaver ineffective, Murray looks to be the flavor of the week. He could be a very nice start this week against a weak UTEP run defense, assuming he gets the lion share of carries. Murray is a bit of a risk with the Central Florida backfield being in flux, but could pay off handsomely for owners looking for help this week. Something in the neighborhood of 80 to 100 yards rushing and a score seem attainable for Murray.
Cierre Wood RB Notre Dame vs. Stanford:
Wood has quietly put up a 1000 yard season while being in a time share situation with Jonas Gray. That sharing situation has likely come to an end with Gray suffering a bad knee injury last week. While Stanford is tough against the run, Wood is still a decent bet to post solid numbers with the expected increase in carries. Don’t be surprised to see Wood top the 100-yard mark in Championship Week.
Ka’Deem Carey RB Arizona vs. La Lafayette:
This freshman has been very productive in a shared backfield and seems to be getting better each week. He is a playmaker who seems to have a nose for the end zone, as his eight total touchdowns can attest. Carey has a tremendous match up this week against a La Lafayette defense that could be prone to give up a few big plays. This youngster is worth a look this week in most leagues and has a very high ceiling.
Fitzgerald Toussaint RB Michigan vs. Ohio State:
Toussaint has firmly established himself as the lead back for Michigan with his recent performances. He has gone well over 100 yards rushing in three of his past four games and added 5 scores also. He faces a good Ohio State rush defense in this rivalry game, but could still put up decent numbers. A game with 75 to 100 yards and a score could be very feasible for this Wolverine in Week 13.
Darrin Moore WR Texas Tech vs. Baylor:
Moore has been a bit of an enigma this season. He started off the season with an incredible 339 yards and four touchdowns in the first two games, but then got hurt and has been missing in action ever since. He showed flashes of being back last week against Missouri with 88 yards and a score. This week’s game with Baylor could turn into a track meet, with Moore getting plenty of action. Moore has some nice upside this week indeed.
Billy Ray Stutzmann WR Hawaii vs. Tulane:
Stutzmann appears to be the last man standing in the Hawaii receiving core and has put up solid fantasy numbers recently. He should see plenty of targets this week against a suspect Tulane defense. A 100 plus yard effort is entirely possible for Stutzmann this week and maybe even more.
Alec Lemon WR Syracuse vs. Cincinnati:
Lemon has been anything but the past two games, posting 336 yards and three scores during that span. It is not often that a Syracuse wide receiver is viewed as a fantasy start, but that could be the case this week against Cincinnati. The Bearcats are abysmal against the pass, ranking 110
th in the nation. Lemon has some risk associated with him, but could be just the guy for fantasy owners in need of a wide out this week.
Clay Sears TE Tulsa vs. Houston:
Sears has been very productive over the past two weeks, accounting for 134 yards receiving and two scores. He should be heavily involved this week as Tulsa tries to stay with a potent Houston offense. He looks to be a solid option this week at a weak position.
Sneaky D’s:
Utah vs. Colorado
Miami vs. Boston College
NC State vs. Maryland
Florida International vs. Middle Tennessee
Missouri vs. Kansas
Southern Miss vs. Memphis
San Diego State vs. UNLV
