In a big playoff week in college fantasy football, who came through for their owners? Who were the letdowns?
Champs
Quarterbacks:
1.
Robert Griffin III, Baylor- Can you say Heisman? That was the type of comeback performances that gets you the bronze trophy; 550 total yards and 4 TDs.
2.
Chandler Harnish, NIU- The senior QB continues to be one of the best dual-threat gunslingers in the nation. Harnish threw for 338 yards and added 181 on the ground as he went for 3 TDs in the win.
3.
James Franklin, Missouri- After a lackluster performance against Texas, Franklin rebounded both through the air and on the ground against Texas Tech; 324 total yards, 4 TDs.
Running Backs:
1.
Robert Turbin, Utah State- Turbin is really finishing the season off strong with his third straight multi-touchdown performance. The senior RB also topped 200 yards in the win over Idaho.
2.
Bernard Pierce, Temple- A big game for Pierce in his return from injury; 157 yards, 3 TDs.
3.
Trent Richardson, Alabama- Just another day at the office for Richardson as he topped 150 yards rushing for the fourth time this season. He also added 2 TDs.
Wide Receivers:
1.
Kendall Wright, Baylor- There was some luck involved with his catches, but a great day nonetheless; 208 yards receiving and a touchdown.
2.
Tyler Shoemaker, Boise State- Shoemaker was the only receiver to have more than 3 catches; 10 in all to go with 3 TDs.
3.
Nick Harwell, Miami (OH)- Another MAC game, another huge fantasy day. Harwell had 14 catches for 138 yards and 3 TDs.
Tight Ends:
1.
Chris Gragg, Arkansas- By far the best game of the season for Gragg; 119 yards on 8 catches and a touchdown.
2.
Cooper Helfet, Duke- Nice 2 TD performance for Helfelt. This was the way the Duke passing game should have played all year long.
3.
Gavin Escobar, San Diego State- Huge day for Escobar in the blowout loss to Boise State. It was his first game this season in which he topped the 100-yard mark.
Chumps
Quarterbacks:
1.
B.J. Daniels, South Florida- When your team only scores 3 points total, it’s pretty clear that the QB did not have a good day. Daniels only had 118 total yards of offense.
2.
Tajh Boyd, Clemson- It was pretty obvious that Clemson did not care about their game against NC State as they had already secured a spot in the ACC title game. This was the first game of the year in which Boyd did not have a touchdown pass.
3.
Casey Pachall, TCU- The run game was working this week for TCU. Pachall was not needed in the blowout win. He only had 117 yards passing with no scores.
Running Backs:
1.
Stepfan Taylor, Stanford- Typically being the leading rusher for the Cardinal signals a very good day. Not so with Taylor as he only had 46 yards on the ground.
2.
Perry Jones, Virginia- Had a decent day catching the ball out of the backfield, but Jones was shut down for the most part against a stingy Seminoles defense.
3.
Andre Ellington, Clemson- Rough game all around for Clemson on offense. Ellington was the leading rusher with a measly 28 yards.
Wide Receivers:
1.
Mike Willie, Arizona State- Only 16 of Brock Osweiler’s 487 passing yards went in the way of Willie.
2.
Tyron Carrier, Houston- Second game in a row where Carrier was basically a non-factor. Did not matter much though as Houston still rolled.
3.
Paul Richardson, Colorado- Just not the kind of season we envisioned Richardson having. In the 3 games since coming back from injury, he has only had 36 yards receiving.
Tight Ends:
1.
Drake Dunsmore, Northwestern- 2 catches for 14 yards is well below the standard for this senior TE.
