BCS Only Start:
QB: Russell Wilson Wisconsin vs. Purdue: Wilson started off very strong and has slowed down just a bit over the past few games. He could turn that all around this week as the Badgers try to take out some of their frustration this week on Purdue. This could be one of those games where Wisconsin is up by 40 points in the third quarter and Wilson is still throwing the ball all over Purdue. A big stat line could be in store for Wilson this week.
RB: Rex Burkhead Nebraska vs. Northwestern: Burkhead has three straight games with over 100 yards rushing and has scored at least one rushing touchdown in every game this season. The Huskers are finally starting to run the offense through Burkhead, which has led to an increase in his carries. Rex could run wild this week against a poor Northwestern rush defense that ranks 95th in the nation. Expect a big day from Rex in Week Ten.
WR: Keenan Allen California vs. Washington State: Allen has been huge this season and is averaging roughly eight receptions and 124 yards per game. He should feast on the Washington State secondary that ranks 100th in the country against the pass. Allen might light up the night sky in Berkley this Saturday.
Non BCS Start:
QB: Kolton Browning La-Monroe vs. La-Lafayette: Browning has been coming on of late and just dropped 394 total yards and three total scores on Western Kentucky last week. He is a dual threat quarterback who can beat you with his arm or legs. Browning may be too much for the La-Lafayette defense to handle this week. Look for another solid yardage day from Browning in Week Ten.
RB: Jamal Woodyard Southern Miss vs. East Carolina: This freshman has assumed control of the Southern Miss backfield and has back to back games with over 100 yards rushing. The chances appear good that he will run that streak to three games with the 88th ranked rush defense of ECU on the slate this week. Expect another solid effort from this freshman in Week Ten.
WR: Tyler Shoemaker Boise State vs. UNLV: Shoemaker is red hot with 278 yards and three touchdowns in the past two games. He should continue to post big numbers this week against a pathetic UNLV secondary that gives up yards in bunches and will likely have no answer for the Boise State passing game. Fantasy owners can expect a trip or two to the end zone for Shoemaker this week.
BCS Only Sit:
QB- Tyler Wilson Arkansas vs. South Carolina: Wilson has struggled a bit in his last three games and only has three touchdown passes over that span. Things will get even tougher for Wilson this week as he stares down a stout South Carolina pass defense that only allows 135 yards per game. This game could be a low scoring affair with fantasy production being hard to come by.
RB- Trent Richardson Alabama vs. LSU: Richardson is quite simple a fantasy beast, but his upside looks to be limited this week against LSU. The Tigers rank 3rd in the country at stopping the run and should be focused on stopping Richardson this week and forcing Alabama to throw the ball. He probably won’t get completely held in check, but fantasy owners would be wise to temper their expectations this week.
WR- Chris Givens Wake Forest vs. Notre Dame: Givens has been a fantasy stud this season going over 100 yards receiving in six of the first seven games. He hit a snag last week with only 42 yards receiving versus North Carolina. It may have only been a hick up, but fantasy owners should pay attention to the fact that he is playing a tough Notre Dame defense and could struggle once again this week.
Non BCS Sit:
QB- Matt Christian New Mexico State vs. Georgia: Christian is coming off a monster performance last week against Nevada in which he amassed 467 total yards and four total scores. The sledding will be much tougher this week against a Georgia defense that yields less than 181 yards per game through the air. Put Christian back on the pine and wait for a friendlier match up.
RB- Orleans Darkwa Tulane vs. SMU: Darkwa looks to have reclaimed control of the Tulane backfield and has scored a touchdown in five straight games, but he could struggle this week versus SMU. The Mustangs only allow 112 yards per game on the ground and will likely make stopping Darkwa their main emphasis this week. Don’t expect huge numbers from Darkwa this Saturday.
WR- Lance Lewis East Carolina vs. Southern Miss: Lewis has been a productive fantasy receiver, but nothing near the fantasy force he was expected to be in 2011. He has scored eight times, but his yardage totals are much lower than anticipated. He has a tough match up this week with a Southern Miss pass defense that ranks 35th in the country.
JOE ARPASI
BCS Only Start:
QB- Jacory Harris Miami vs. Duke: If you’re in a very deep or BCS only league, Harris might be a good option if you’re in a pinch. Running back Lamar Miller is banged up and Harris has been filling the void nicely. With a juicy match-up Harris looks to be pretty solid as a spot starter.
RB- James White Iowa State vs. Kansas: Suggesting to start a running back against Kansas isn’t a shocker this season. But White has found his stride since taking over the starting spot in the line-up. Last week against Texas Tech he rushed for 138 yards and a score. Another 100+ yard and one score performance is very attainable for White again this week.
WR- Juron Criner Arizona vs. Utah: The injury to receiver Dan Bucker leaves Criner as the hands-down top weapon of the Arizona offense. They will be tested playing at Utah against a defense that was very stiff last week. But Arizona has played inspired football the last two weeks and you can expect to find Criner making plays down the field in this one.
Non BCS Start:
QB- Derek Carr Fresno State vs. Louisiana Tech: The Louisiana Tech fantasy guys have been getting too much of the attention this week. Carr has put up 28 fantasy points the last two weeks even with running back Robbie Rouse making noise. This game has the makings of another solid game by Carr.
RB- Jawon Chisholm Akron at Miami, OH: Chisholm has come out of a slump as he put up 20 fantasy points last week against Central Michigan. He faces a Miami defense that is giving up an average of 20 fantasy points to opposing rushers at home. This seems like a nice combination to take advantage of in deep leagues. He will also have more nice match-ups coming as he gets Kent State, Buffalo and Western Michigan after this one.
WR- Briggs Orsbon Ball State at Eastern Michigan: The Ball State passing game has woken up these last two weeks and Orsbon has benefited. Over the last two weeks he has scored 19 and 27 fantasy points. Eastern Michigan is no defensive powerhouse, giving up 25 fantasy points per game to opposing receivers at home. Add in the fact that this game could become a high scoring affair and this has the makings of a very sneaky play.
BCS Only Sit:
QB- Dan Persa Northwestern at Nebraska: Persa has been losing some snaps to Kain Colter but has been able to put up decent numbers lately. He will be running into a sea of red this weekend with his match-up at Nebraska. The combination of a difficult match-up and the chance that coaches use Colter more in a wildcat package to contend with Nebraska’s defense is not a good mix for Persa.
RB- Terrance Ganaway Baylor vs. Missouri: Fantasy owners have been riding Ganaway for the past couple of weeks, but this might be a match-up to avoid. I don’t like playing Big XII running backs against Missouri since their defense is very aggressive in defending the run, only giving up 14 fantasy points per game to opposing rushers on the road this season. Expect RG3 to do more damage on the ground and in the air in this one.
WR- Nick Toon Wisconsin vs. Purdue: Toon has been slipping with his production since coming back from injury. The Purdue defense is ready for a pre-Thanksgiving carving this week, but Wisconsin will not need to go to the air much in this one. Look for the ground game to do most of the early scoring, then watch the back-ups come in and play in mop-up duty.
Non BCS Sit:
QB- JJ McDermott SMU vs. Tulane: This has the makings of a nice match-up for the Mustangs, but McDermott has been banged up. The SMU has been sluggish during this period and don’t be surprised if the coaches protect McDermott by utilizing running back Zach Line more this week. Tulane is giving up 20 fantasy points to opposing running backs on the road this year.
RB- Alfred Morris Florida Atlantic vs. Arkansas State: Morris has been up and down this season, but many fantasy owners in deep leagues have been searching for spot starts with Morris. On instance was two weeks ago against a poor Western Kentucky defense. Morris only mustered three fantasy points in that one. With Arkansas State giving up only a stingy nine fantasy points per game to opposing running backs at home, this has the makings of a stinker for Morris.
WR- Lance Lewis East Carolina vs. Southern Miss: This is a cautious sit move here. Lewis has not broken 20 fantasy points since week five, and much of that has to do with the declining play of the offensive line. Southern Miss has given up fantasy points to receivers this season, but over the past two weeks they have only given up a total of 16 points. Lewis should be solid for a fantasy point total in the teens, but if you are looking for someone to get you 20 fantasy points, you might want to look elsewhere.
