Waiver Wire Grab Bag Week 2 Second Glance QUARTERBACKS Dominique Davis, East Caro

On Sunday, Joe Arpasi took a look at some possible waiver wire additions (click here).  After further studying the stats from the weekend, today we take another look at some more wire considerations, or guys to at least put on your radar moving forward.

Waiver Wire Grab Bag – Week 2 Second Glance

QUARTERBACKS

Dominique Davis, East Carolina

The QB race between Brad Wornick and Davis went down to the wire, with Davis trotting out to take the first snap on Sunday.  All he did was throw for 383 yards and 5 TDs, while tacking on another 29 and 1 TD on the ground.  Note: this was one of ECU's top matchups of the year, and they do have a difficult stretch of games (Week 3 - VT, Week 4 - BYE, Week 5 - UNC, Week 7 - NC State) before getting back into the meat of their C-USA schedule. Davis is a must-get waiver wire option this week if you need help at QB.

Taylor Martinez, Nebraska
Against WKU, Martinez got what was considered by most to be a surprise start.  He certainly took advantage of the situation, rushing for 127 yards and 3 scores to go along with 136 through the air. The schedule the next few weeks is Idaho, @ Washington and South Dakota State.  We might need to see more from Martinez before giving him a ringing endorsement.  But he is certainly one to keep an eye on.

Sean Renfree, Duke
Renfree went 31 for 39 for 350 yards and a pair of scores on Saturday.  He's an interesting under-the-radar prospect to consider in BCS-only league.  However, the schedule isn't pretty with Wake, Alabama, BYE, Miami (FL) and Va Tech taking up five of the next six games (the only reprieve is Army in Week 4).

Spencer Keith, Kent State
Keith completed 24 passes for 275 yards and 3 scores against Murray State.  He's one to watch this year once he gets into MAC play.  Could be a nice spot starter.

RUNNING BACKS

Keith Payne, Virginia

Payne toted the rock 16 times for 114 yards and 4 TDs against Richmond.  And he did all of this as a backup.  Now, don't expect this type of production on a regular basis.  But if you are in a BCS-only or ACC-heavy format, he is one to consider when the match up is right (Week 4 vs. Va Military, Week 8 vs. E.Michigan, Week 10 vs. Duke).

Princeton McCarty, Idaho
McCarty emerged as the starter for the Vandals, and impressed in the opener.  He accouted for 128 total yards and 2 TDs against Portland State.  The schedule does get tougher (including this week at Nebraska), but if you are in a deep league looking to build depth at RB, McCarty is a nice option.

Dwayne Priest, Eastern Michigan
In a close battle with Army, Priest logged 26 carries for 142 yards and a pair of scores.  He appears to be the workhorse back from a MAC cellar dweller, which is good and bad.  QB Alex Gillett is a runner as well so he will steal some TDs.  But if you are in a deep league, Priest needs to be on your radar as 26 carries is nothing to sneeze at.

Orleans Darkwa, Tulane
A kid named Orleans playing for Tulane.  Oh, the irony!  Darkwa is not worth picking up as Ole Miss (well maybe that is a good match up, actually) and a Bye week loom next, but he did log a 19-75-3 statline in the opener against SE Louisiana.  Darkwa could be a darkhorse waiver wire spot starter in some of the easier C-USA matchups.

Joe Banyard, UTEP
Banyard filled in nicely for the banged up Donald Buckram, rushing for 19-94-2 and catching 2 balls for another 20 yards.  If Buckram is ruled out for any length of time, Banyard becomes a viable waiver wire option.  Houston, New Mexico State, Memphis and New Mexico are up next for the Miners.

WIDE RECEIVERS

Marcus Rivers, Buffalo

Rivers came out of nowhere to post a 10-155-1 statline over the weekend.  He is one to put on your watch list for when MAC play begins.

DeVonte Christopher, Utah
While Jereme Brooks appears to be the main man in the Utes' passing game, Christopher had a stronger showing versus Pitt.  8 catches for 155 yards and a score.  Keep him on your radar moving forward.

Lance Lewis, East Carolina
The Pirates are going to be throwing the ball early and often this fall.  While Dwayne Harris is the number one weapon, somebody needs to play the complimentary role and Lewis could be that guy.  He caught 6 balls for 105 yards and 2 scores on Saturday.

Cole Beasley, SMU
The Mustangs passing game wasn't exactly clicking in Lubbock on Sunday, but Cole Beasley had a nice showing, catching 5 balls for 57 yards and 2 TDs.  Once SMU gets into C-USA play, Beasley will provide some nice outings.

Kierre Johnson, Houston
Kierre is the No. 4 man on the Houston totem pole of receivers, but he still could put up a nice season.  He caught 3 balls for 61 yards and a pair of scores in Saturday's laugher.  If you are in a deep league in need of WR help, he is certainly a consideration.

Lyle Leong, Texas Tech
Leong caught 11 balls for 142 yards and 3 TDs against SMU's wretched secondary on Sunday.  He was a high school teammate of QB Taylor Potts, so there is chemistry there.  But before you go off thinking Leong is the next Michael Crabtree, just consider that Alexander Torres did not play in this one.  And remember that for the most part, the Red Raiders receivers have been very tough to predict from week to week.  With the exception of the aforementioned Crabby Patty.

Lester Jean, Florida Atlantic
Jean put up a 9-164-2 statline against UAB on Thursday.  Granted, it was UAB - probably FAU's best fantasy match up of the season, but still those numbers are beyond solid.  If you add Jean, just remember that you probably can only plug him into your line up twice over the next six weeks (two bye weeks, Michigan State and USF are sit situations).

Other WRs to watch:
Sam Kirkland, Kent State (9-126-1 in Week 1)
MIchael Campbell, Temple (8-127-1)
Conner Vernon, Duke (10-125-0)
Jeremy Ebert, Northwestern (111 total yards, 1 TD)
Kamar Jordan, Bowling Green (9-111-0)
Royce Pollard, Hawaii (7-106-0)

TIGHT END

Michael Egnew, Missouri

Egnew was one of the fast risers on our preseason Big Board, and he lived up to the hype in the opener catching 10 balls for 60 yards and a TD.  Pick him up now if he went undrafted in your league.

Zack Pianalto, North Carolina
Despite our Top 15 preseason ranking, Pianalto largely went undrafted in most leagues.  In a down year for tight ends, he is a solid weekly starting option in larger leagues.

Virgil Green, Nevada
Green had a monster opener, logging a 7-144-2 statline.  Just remember that Nevada is a run-first offense and that Green could go missing in a few games.

Justin Jones, East Carolina
Jones was quiet throughout most of the Tulsa game on Sunday, but then he caught the game-winner on a Hail Mary.  He finished with 4-55-1 on the day.
