Unhappy with your draft?  Already need to fill some holes before opening weekend?  Here are a few possible waiver wire players who might boost your week one lineup.

QUARTERBACKS

Dominique Davis / Brad Wornick, East Carolina (vs. Tulsa)

We are still waiting to hear exactly who the starter will be. But whoever wins the job will be a great sleeper pick as the Pirates install a Mike Leach style offense. These guys went undrafted in most leagues and are worth gobbling up now.

Darron Thomas, Oregon (vs. New Mexico)
Thomas was tapped as the starting QB due to his dual threat ability. Not only will Thomas’ fantasy value grow as the season unfolds, but he does provide a decent match-up in Week 1. I’m not a huge fan of playing rookie QBs in their first start, but Thomas could remain in the game long enough to provide some nice stats as the coaches work to get him ready for Tennessee in Week 2.

Nick Foles, Arizona (at Toledo)
Foles doesn’t bring the most spectacular spot start in week 1, but he does provide a nice match-up. If you find yourself in a Week 1 pinch at QB, you might be able to find Foles available. Foles should have no problems carving up the Toledo secondary.

David Isabelle, UAB (vs. Florida Atlantic)
Isabelle is an up and comer in college fantasy football , but his Week 1 match-up is perfect for a good fantasy scoring opportunity. They play at home, against a team with the same relative talent level, and against a defense that will struggle to stop Isabelle on the ground.  This game could go down to the wire, so Isabelle may remain productive throughout the contest.

Corey Robinson, Troy (vs. Bowling Green)
Robinson beat out veteran Jamie Hampton for the starting job. He gets to open his season at home against a poor defense. If the Bowling Green offense decides to show up, this game could easily be competitive through the fourth quarter. This means that Robinson should not only be productive from a fantasy prospective, but also give us a good idea of what we could expect from him once conference play rolls around.

RUNNING BACKS

Kenjon Barner, Oregon (vs. New Mexico)

Barner will start at RB for the Ducks as LaMichael James sits out due to suspension. Barner has been impressive in spring and fall camp. Although Barner won’t last the whole game, he should end up with very productive stats.

Caleb King, Georgia (vs. UL-Lafayette)
Starting RB Washaun Ealey must sit out the season opener, thus making Caleb King’s workload a lot bigger. With the most experienced offensive line in the country, King should have no problem finding daylight against the Cajuns.

Tauren Poole, Tennessee (vs. Tennessee-Martin)
There’s been a lot of change at Tennessee, new coaches and plenty of new starters.  The offensive line is being retooled, but Poole should be able to gain plenty of yards against T-Martin. This looks to be a one week start-and-dump, since the lack of experience up front should hold Poole back once conference play starts.

Marc Tyler, USC (at Hawaii)
USC’s top two rushers are out of commission due to suspension and injury. In comes Marc Tyler as the last man standing. USC will be able to move the ball at will against Hawaii, and you can see USC run the ball in order to shorten the game and keep the Hawaii offense off the field.

WIDE RECEIVERS

Maurice Shaw, Idaho (vs. North Dakota)
Shaw enters the season as one of the top targets of the Vandal passing attack. North Dakota will provide a tune up game where the new offensive line can work out the kinks. Since the offensive line is new, the offense may have to go to the air more than normal. Look for Shaw to be productive with his opportunities in Week 1.

Johnathan Wilson, Kansas (vs. North Dakota State)
Wilson looks to be the center piece of the passing attack in 2010. Kansas has four very nice match-ups early against North Dakota State, Southern Miss, New Mexico State, and Baylor. The schedule only gets harder after the Week 6 bye. If you need help with your WR core early, Wilson will serve as a good short term fix through Week 5.

Josh Cooper, Oklahoma State (vs. Washington State)
Starting Josh Cooper is Week 1 would take a leap of faith. But Cooper could be a pivotal part of the passing game and Oklahoma State has a very nice early season schedule. With match-ups like Washington State, Troy, Tulsa, Texas A&M, and UL-Lafayette; Cooper could provide a good spot starter.

DEFENSES

Syracuse (at Akron)
Yes you read that right, the Syracuse defense! Some of the top defense’s have difficult non-conference match-ups early in the season. Syracuse can serve as a temporary band-aid. The Orange opens with Akron, then in Weeks 3 & 4 they face Maine and Colgate.
