What You Need To Know
The offense looks to be pretty explosive once again, despite the losses of RB Ian Johnson and WR Jeremy Childs. QB Kellen Moore will look to build on his Freshman All-American season of 2008, and he’ll be surrounded by an ample supply of weapons.
Best Fantasy Prospect(s)
QB Kellen Moore passed for 3,486 yards and 25 TDs last season. He should top those numbers in 2009.
With Ian Johnson graduating, RB Jeremy Avery is getting a lot of love this off-season. However, D.J. Harper had a very strong spring and could see significant playing time in the Bronco backfield.
WR Austin Pettis could be poised for a big season. Last year the 6’3, 202-pounder logged 49 catches for 567 yards and 9 touchdowns. The 567 yards was third on the team. With the top two guys moving on (Jeremy Childs and Vinny Perretta), there are 1,400 receiving yards up for grabs.
Sleeper Prospect
WR Titus Young got himself out of the doghouse this spring and looked explosive. The 5’11, 167-pounder figures to be Boise State’s deep threat. He accounted for 700 yards from scrimmage and 7 TDs in 2007.
TE Tommy Gallarda could become a low-end fantasy prospect. He received some praise from the coaching staff this spring.
Biggest Question Heading into August
The running game has the potential to be outstanding if the offensive line can produce at a high level. The question is whether Jeremy Avery will get the lion’s share of the carries, or will D.J. Harper vulture away just enough to knock Avery down a few pegs in the fantasy pecking order? We’re going to be watching this one closely in August.
Spring Game Hero
Starting slot receiver Tyler Shoemaker had a big game, catching three balls for 138 yards and two scores, including a 85 yard strike from fellow WR Austin Pettis on a trick play.
Injury Report
Two offensive line starters - Nate Porter and Kevin Sapien - missed spring ball with injuries. They should be ready to go in August.
