What You Need To Know

The offense is loaded at the skill positions, but weak on the o-line.  Levi Brown will be the starter at QB.  Last year’s early season starter, Jamie Hampton, has decided to redshirt while he recovers from his 2008 season-ending knee surgery.  Brown will be throwing the ball to a dynamic set of wide receivers, including Jerrel Jernigan , Josh Jarboe and Jay BruceDuJuan Harris returns to lead the running game.  The offense will be very good if the offensive line can adequately replace the four starters lost from a year ago.

Best Fantasy Prospect(s)

RB DuJuan Harris and WR Jerrel Jernigan should be drafted in every All-120 league formats.  Harris accounted for 1,300 yards from scrimmage in 2008, while scoring 14 TDs.  He’s a threat out of the backfield - he caught 36 balls a year ago.  Jernigan accounted for 1,100 yards from scrimmage of his own, and added 6 scores.

QB Levi Brown is another draft day consideration.  If you look deep at the Troy passing numbers from a year ago, shared by Brown and Hampton, they totaled 3,207 passing yards and 26 scores.  These stats are comparable to Rusty Smith at Sun Belt rival FAU (who will be selected much earlier in your draft).  As we mentioned above, if the o-line can give Brown time, he has a great set of wide receiver targets at his disposal.

Troy’s defense should not be overlooked.  They are a great unit to play when the Trojans face Sun Belt opponents.

Sleeper Prospect

The natural player to put in the Troy “sleeper” spot is WR Josh Jarboe.  The controversial Oklahoma transfer appears to be set to play this fall.  His talent is immense, and if he can keep his nose clean he should make an instant impact in the Trojan offense.

Biggest Question Heading into August

Can the offensive line product at a high level with four new starters?

Spring Game Hero

Nothing crazy, but Josh Jarboe caught four balls for 34 yards.

Injury Report

QB Jamie Hampton is still recovering from a knee injury suffered during the 2008 season.  He has elected to redshirt for the 2009 season.
