Vanderbilt
What You Need To Know
Vanderbilt doesn’t figure to be a fantasy hot spot in 2009. The QB position is up for grabs with Mackenzi Adams and Larry Smith battling it out. Neither appears to be the next Jay Cutler. The Dores haven’t had a RB crack the 700 yard barrier in over five years. Jared Hawkins will try to break that streak. The senior-to-be rushed for 593 yards and 4 scores last fall. There might be some fantasy hope at the TE and WR position where Brandon Barden, Alex Washington and Terrence Jeffers looked sharp this spring.
Best Fantasy Prospect(s)
There’s been some buzz about TE Brandon Barden this spring. As a freshman in 2008, he caught 28 balls for 209 yards and 4 touchdowns. if he can get up into the 500 yard range, he becomes a strong fantasy prospect.
Sleeper Prospect
Take your pick from Alex Washington and Terrence Jeffers. Washington could be the big play threat the Dores so sorely need. He caught a 75-yard TD in the spring game and set up another score with an electric 39-yard run on a reverse. Jeffers is a 225-pound transfer from UConn who was Vandy’s most consistent WR this spring.
Biggest Question Heading into August
Who will win the QB job? Adams and Smith will continue to battle it out in August. Both have the ability to tuck it and run when need be.
Spring Game Hero
The aforementioned Alex Washington produced several big plays, including a 75-yard TD reception and a 39-yard run on a reverse.
Injury Report
RB Jared Hawkins missed spring practice as he recovered from a foot injury suffered during the season. He is expected to be ready for August camp. WR Just Wheeler tore his ACL at the beginning of spring practice and is unlikely to play this fall.
