South Carolina
What You Need To Know
Stephen Garcia took spring practice by storm and established himself as the clear No. 1 QB by playing mistake-free football. The arrival of stud RB recruit Jarvis Giles was the other big news flash of the spring. Giles lived up to the hype and will push for the starting job in August.
Best Fantasy Prospect(s)
Jarvis Giles is certainly the player with the most upside. He enrolled early in January, and had a great month of practice. Giles dominated the spring game, rushing for 114 yards and two touchdowns on just 12 carries. He might need a year of seasoning before he becomes a reliable fantasy option. We’re looking forward to seeing what he can do this fall in the unforgiving SEC.
Sleeper Prospect
We suppose QB Stephen Garcia fits this description. South Carolina threw 20 touchdown passes as a team in 2008. If Garcia can bump that up into the 23-25 range, he becomes a fantasy factor. He also can run the ball a little bit as evidenced by his 198 rushing yards a year ago.
Biggest Question Heading into August
Who is going to replace WR Kenny McKinley and TE Jared Cook? WRs Jason Barnes and Moe Brown will do their best to fill the void, but neither appear to be viable fantasy options at this point.
Spring Game Hero
As we mentioned earlier, Jarvis Giles rushed 12 times for 114 yards and two scores.
Injury Report
WR Dion LeCorn hurt his leg in the spring game and required surgery. He is expected back in the fall.
