What You Need To Know
No non-traditional power school enters the 2009 season with higher expectations than Ole Miss. QB Jevan Snead is back, along with a host of talented skill position players including Dexter McCluster and Shay Hodge. The loss of WR Mike Wallace (graduation) could be offset by the arrival of stud WR recruit Patrick Patterson. It will be interesting to see how Snead and company handle the pressure of being a preseason Top 10-15 team.
Best Fantasy Prospect(s)
Dexter McCluster is the ultimate double threat. The diminutive one (5’8, 165 pounds) led the team in rushing last fall - from the wide receiver position! He racked up a total of 1,380 yards and 7 TDs on the season.
Jevan Snead threw for over 2,700 yards and 26 TDs last fall. He should improve upon those stats in 2009. 3,000 yards and 30 TDs sounds about right.
Sleeper Prospect
RB Brandon Bolden followed up a strong freshman campaign (542 rushing yards, 5 TDs) with a solid spring showing. The 220-pound bruiser was named the starter by the Rebels offensive coordinator Kent Austin. He is also very good in short yardage situations
Biggest Question Heading into August
What kind of impact will true freshman WR Patrick Patterson make? If he can step in and handle the weekly grind of SEC football, Jevan Snead will be licking his chops. McCluster, Shay Hodge and Patterson would make a dynamite trio of receivers.
Spring Game Hero
Snead was efficient, completing 11-of-15 for 254 yards and three scores, including a 20-yard strike to McCluster.
Injury Report
Redshirt freshman WR Melvin Harris missed spring ball after having foot surgery. He should be back in time for the 2009 season.
