Auburn
What You Need To Know
The most important fantasy hire for Auburn was not their head coach (Gene Chizik from Iowa State), but instead offensive guru Gus Malzahn. He brought excitement to Arkansas and Tulsa over the past few seasons with his hurry-up offense. Can he do the same in the rugged SEC?
Best Fantasy Prospect(s)
We’ll take a wait and see approach before investing a draft pick on a Auburn player this year. Too many unknowns for our taste. However, there are two guys we’ll be watching once the season begins: RB Ben Tate and the multi-talented Mario Fannin.
Tate has been solid but not spectacular in recent years. Can Malzahn get the most out of the senior? Or will he go with the dreaded RBBC?
Fannin is Mr. Electric. Malzahn certainly will be lining up the 5’11, 222-pounder all over the field to exploit favorable match ups. Fannin caught 20 balls last year, and toted the rock 54 times. Total yards from scrimmage was 450. Total TDs: three. Not exactly fantasy star numbers. But the buzz around Auburn is that he will be a big part of the offense this fall. We shall see.
Sleeper Prospect
WR DeAngelo Benton is expected to enroll at Auburn this summer. The former LSU signee has been mired in academic issues since high school. Assuming he is fully qualified, he could step right in and make an impact. He has all of the tools to be a feature target in the SEC.
Biggest Question Heading into August
Who will play quarterback? Neil Caudle and Kodi Burns battled throughout the spring but nothing was settled.
Spring Game Hero
WR Darvin Adams had four receptions for 103 yards and one touchdown.
Injury Report
Fannin missed time with a sore ankle.
