What You Need To Know

The Trojans have lost starting QB Mark Sanchez to the NFL and had a three horse race for the starting job. Transfer Mitch Mustain was virtually lost in the competition between Aaron Corp and Matt Barkley. There is no clear cut choice yet, but we think that Aaron Corp will be the starter come opening day. Corp made the least mistakes during the course of the spring, and Pete Carroll will always go with the steady-reliable guy over the “flash in the pan” talent.

Best Fantasy Prospect(s)

WR Damian Williams may prove to be the best fantasy option for 2009. The biggest names on offense are in the backfield, but the ball gets spread around too much. Williams could become the main redzone target which could mean more TDs his way.

RBs Joe McKnight, CJ Gable, and Staphon Johnson all shared time in the backfield during the 2008 season. 2009 looks to be more of the same. Each of these guys are capable of producing 100 yard-2 TD games. But the ball gets spread around too much to play one of these guys instead of somebody else from the other 119 teams.

Sleeper Prospect

QB Corp appears to be the man to be starting under center come game 1. Keep your eyes on him as a possible weekly matchup start when USC plays teams like Washington, Washington State, Stanford, and Arizona State.

Biggest Question Heading into August

The good news for the eventual starter at QB is that a plethora of RBs and WRs are back for 2009. The Trojans face the same problem every year in terms of fantasy football. There is tons of talent and big names that should grab your attention. But the ball is spread around too much for any one specific player to have a high enough fantasy value to be used in 120 leagues. Will 2009 be a year that somebody stands out with a fantasy value? Time will only tell, but we aren’t holding our breath.

Spring Game Hero

In a Spring Game where the stats were very spread out, CJ Gable provided the day’s best performance with 53 yards rushing on only 5 carries.

Injury Report

RB McKnight missed a few practices with dislocated toes.

RB Gable missed some time with a hip strain.
