UCLA
What You Need To Know
There were very few bright spots for UCLA in 2008. Will the team and the offense do much better in 2009? Hard to tell until the offensive line can show that it is improving at a level to compete in the Pac-10.
Best Fantasy Prospect(s)
TE Ryan Moya was one of the few bright spots in the 2008 UCLA passing attack. Moya is a savvy pass catcher who can make a big impact in 2009.
Sleeper Prospect
Christian Ramirez won the starting RB position during the spring. The odds are that he will see other RBs cut into his carries, but UCLA has used their starter as the main focus of the ground game. With an expected improvement in offensive line play, the running game can only get better from its 2008 levels.
Biggest Question Heading into August
After having QB Kevin Craft serving as the starter during 2008, the starting job was wide open during spring practice. Kevin Prince took advantage of the open race and was named the starting QB going into fall camp. Odds are that he will hold onto this job heading into the season opener. But will Prince be able to get the UCLA offense moving? We think that caution needs to be taken with any Bruin player as a fantasy option, and only take somebody if they are a free agent pickup.
Spring Game Hero
No player stood out in the poor offensive performance of the Spring Game.
Injury Report
QB Prince sat out a couple of days from practicing due to soreness in his arm.
TE Moya who was one of the best fantasy options for the Bruins in 2008 missed spring practice as he underwent surgery for his right knee and Achilles tendon.
TE Logan Paulsen most likely fractured his foot in spring pratice. This was the same foot he injured in 2008.
