What You Need To Know
The Beavers have a QB battle going between last year’s starter Lyle Moevao and back up Sean Canfield who stepped in when Moevao hurt his shoulder. Moevao missed the spring to allow his shoulder to heal, and Canfield made the most of it by playing outstanding in every practice with an average spring game performance.
But these two QBs will only have 1 returning starting WR from 2008. New WRs must step up to give these QBs the help they need to move the ball through the air.
Best Fantasy Prospect(s)
RB Jacquizz Rodgers was one of the best RBs in the Pac-10 in 2008 as a true freshman. 2009 looks to be a good year for “The Quizz” and he will be a workhorse of a feature back for the Beavs.
WR James Rodgers is the only returning starter for the Beavs. He is a dual threat to catch passes and carry the ball on the fly sweep.
Whoever emerges as the starting QB between Lyle Moevao and Sean Canfield will be a decent option as a back-up in 120 leagues.
Sleeper Prospect
WR Darrell Catchings will be the starter at the split end position where Sammie Straughter played. He was a hot name all spring and could emerge as a great sleeper pick in 2009 fantasy drafts.
Another guy to keep an eye on is WR Casey Kjos, who had a big spring.
Biggest Question Heading into August
Who will be the starting QB? Both Moevao and Canfield are capable fantasy options, but this QB battle will last well into fall camp.
Spring Game Hero
Back up WR Jordan Bishop made the biggest splash pulling in 5 receptions for 95 yards and 1 score.
Injury Report
RB Jacquizz Rodgers missed a portion of spring practice, and the time he did practice was in non-contact drills only. “The Quizz” should be 100% come fall camp.
QB Moevao sat out the spring as he recovers from shoulder surgery. His rehab is on track and he should be ready to compete for the starting job when fall camps comes around.
Back up running back Ryan McCants suffered a knee injury during spring practice and he will require surgery to fix it.
