What You Need To Know
The Wildcat passing attack has been set back dramatically by the graduation of QB Willie Tuitama and top flight WR Michael Thomas, and now unproven players must fill in these roles. There are two new faces ready to shine in the WR core, but QB remains a major issue.
QB Nick Foles and Matt Scott were in a heated battle this spring and we are nowhere closer to figuring out a starter than when spring camp began. The best bet is that there will be a dual-QB system in play, or there will be rotating QBs just like what California used in 2008 with Nate Longshore and Kevin Riley. Neither situation is good for fantasy owners.
Best Fantasy Prospect(s)
TE Rob Gronkowski will be the number 1 or 2 TE on everybody’s draft boards this fall. Although he loses his QB from last year he will still be the focus of the 2009 air attack.
RB duo of Nic Grigsby and Keola Antolin are proven producers on the ground. Grigsby seems to have the starting job right now, but fumble problems forced Grigsby to the bench for part of the 2008 season. That was where Antolin shined and showed his ability to be a feature back.
WR Delashaun Dean will be the man to step up as the deep threat in the Wildcat passing attack. Gronkowski will get the bulk of passes, but Dean becomes more valuable because of the fact that defenses will focus on double teaming Gronk inside and allowing Dean big plays on the outside.
Sleeper Prospect
WR Bug Wright took advantage of the opportunity this spring to impress the coaching staff. He has earned the starting slot WR spot, the same position that Mike Thomas played last year. Bug is an athletic playmaker that will also serve as a kick returner.
Biggest Question Heading into August
How will the carries shake out between RBs Nic Grigsby, Keola Antolin, and newcomer Greg Nwoko? The RB position in the Wildcat offense is a proven fantasy point producer because the coaches utilize a feature back. As of right now it is unsure who will be starter come opening day, if there will still be a feature back or RBBC, and if newcomer Nwoko will become a TD vulture.
Spring Game Hero
WR Dean caught 4 receptions for 130 yards and 1 TD.
