What You Need To Know

QB Rudy Carpernter is gone after a disastrous 2008 season for the offense. Now they must find a way to rebuild the offense to past levels of success while breaking in a new QB. The Arizona State offense was horrible in 2008, and the Sun Devils will have a very hard time getting things fixed in 2009.

Best Fantasy Prospect(s)

RB Dimitri Nance returns with the largest amount of fantasy success from 2008. He is the safe pick to be the feature back in 2009, but there is new competition in the Sun Devil backfield that may keep Nance watching from the sidelines.

RB Ryan Bass had the best spring of all Arizona State RBs and is making a serious push for the starting job. The Dawgfather’s hunch is that Bass will lock up at least a share of the starting RB duties. He may win the job outright, but the odds say there will be some RBBC for the duo of Nance and Bass.

The Sun Devil Defense will actually be a better fantasy option than QBs and WRs in 120 leagues this fall. Yes only 6 starters return from last year’s defense, but match-ups against teams like Stanford, Washington State, UCLA, and Idaho State make the Sun Devil Defense an attractive option for a free agent pick-up.

Sleeper Prospect

WR Kyle Williams has the best opportunity to breakout in 2009. There are many players that have low ceilings for the upcoming year, but if Williams can get help from the QB to get him the ball, he may develop into a nice receiving and kick returning threat for the Sun Devils.

Biggest Question Heading into August

Can QB Danny Sullivan develop enough to help get the ball into WRs hands for a playmaker to emerge from the receiver core. A weak offensive line made things difficult for QB Rudy Carpenter to live up to fantasy expectations over the last two seasons, and you can expect the sub-par pass protection to continue in the Sullivan era.

Spring Game Hero

RB Bass was the only player to put up respectable numbers in the spring game. He had 12 carries for 61 yards and 1 TD.

Injury Report

No major injuries.
