What You Need To Know

Much has been made of the hiring of Missouri offensive coordinator Dave Christensen to run the show for the Cowboys.  While his attacking offensive scheme is exciting for fantasy purposes, let’s keep in mind that he inherits a roster with very little pop.  In other words, let’s give Christensen a year or two before we anoint Wyoming the “MIzzou of the North”.

Best Fantasy Prospect(s)

When your school runs a Dave Christensen offense, the focus will automatically fall upon the quarterback.  Therefore, the hot name of Wyoming’s spring practice was Karsten Sween.  The senior has thrown for over 3,600 yards and 21 touchdowns in his three years as a Cowboy.  The starting job isn’t locked up just yet.  Sween will have to fend off a couple incoming freshman this fall.  Play the “wait and see” game here before taking the leap of faith with any Wyoming QB in 2009.

Sleeper Prospect

The face of the Wyoming offense for the past few seasons, RB Devin Moore, is gone.  His 1,300+ rushing yards (in 2008) will be missed.  The man who may be asked to fill his shoes is Darius Terry.  He had a strong spring and seemed to adapt to the new spread offense pretty well.  The coaches will be looking to get him the ball in a variety of ways, including the ever-popular “Wildcat"formation.

Biggest Question Heading into August

Can Christensen perform his magic in year one?  Highly doubtful.  But Wyoming could become a fantasy draft day destination in the next couple years, once he gets a few recruiting seasons under his belt and the offense is in place.

Spring Game Hero

Sween completed 16 of 34 passes for 154 yards and a TD.  There were many dropped passes in the game, which led to the sub-.500 completion percentage.

Injury Report

WR Greg Bowling separated his shoulder and missed most of spring ball.
