What You Need To Know

The Broncos are a tough team to figure out this fall.  QB Tim Hiller returns, along with starting RB Brandon West and most of the offensive line.  However, the majority of Hiller’s targets are gone (WR Jamarko Simmons, WR Schneider Julien and TE Branden Ledbetter).  To add an extra level of uncertainty to the mix, Hiller had off-season ACL surgery.  He is expected to be ready to go for fall practice.

Best Fantasy Prospect(s)

There are three draftable commodities on the WMU roster. Tim Hiller is the biggest name star, but don’t expect him to match his 2008 stats (3,725 yards and 36 TDs).  With heavy losses in the receiver corps, we are forecasting a dip in his production.

RB Brandon West rushed for 1,000 yards, caught 38 balls for 280 yards, and scored 11 touchdowns in 2008.  He will be running behind a veteran offensive line in ‘09, but don’t be surprised if Aaron Winchester cuts into his playing time a little this fall.

WR Juan Nunez
was the team’s third leading receiver a year ago (57 catches for 701 yards and 7 TDs).  With three other top targets graduating, Nunez becomes Hiller’s primary target.  We expect him to have a nice season.

Sleeper Prospect

WR Robert Arnheim had a strong spring, culminating in a big spring game (6 catches for 115 yards, including a 63-yard touchdown).

Biggest Question Heading into August

Is Tim Hiller healthy?  He is the straw the stirs the drink at Western Michigan.  All eyes will be on the big QB in August.

Spring Game Hero

WR Robert Arhheim caught 6 balls for 115 yards and a touchdown.

Injury Report

Tim Hiller’s recovery from ACL surgery was the big news this off-season.  It should be noted that Hiller suffered the injury during the 2008 season, and was able to finish out the season.  He participated in sprig 7-on-7 non-contact drills, and is hoping to be fully recovered by August.
