What You Need To Know

Frank Solich has a quarterback controversy on his hands.  Last year’s starter, Boo Jackson, will continue to battle Theo Scott for the job in August.  Both have a similar skill set in that they are able to tuck it and run when a play breaks down.  Over at RB, Chris Garrett had a good spring, but reports were mixed as to whether he will be the feature back in the fall.

Best Fantasy Prospect(s)

If you’re in a MAC-heavy talent pool format, Chris Garrett is one player to watch.  He rushed for only 529 yards and 5 scores a year ago, but he did add 24 catches for 290 yards and a pair of TDs.  And this was in a split back situation.  If he becomes a true feature back, 1,000 total yards and 10 TDs is a possibility.

If Boo Jackson wins the starting job, he also becomes a viable fantasy option.

Sleeper Prospect

WR Taylor Price caught 51 balls for 694 yards and 5 TD a year ago.  He figures to be a big part of the offense again in 2009.

Biggest Question Heading into August

The obvious question is who will be the quarterback?  Boo Jackson was a hot waiver wire pickup last year.  He posted decent passing numbers in 2008 (2,355 yards, 19 TDs), but what makes him an attractive prospect is his ability to get out of the pocket and run (333 yards and 2 TDs).  His competition for the starting gig is Theo Scott, an unproven commodity that would need to post a few good games before fantasy owners warmed up to him.

Spring Game Hero

Nobody really stood out in this one.

Injury Report

The offensive line was hit the hardest, with four major contributors missing time this spring.  Guard Gary Schussler may miss the 2009 season with a foot injury.
