What You Need To Know

Heading into their 2008 bowl game, the Golden Eagles boasted one of the best QB-RB-WR triple threats in the country in Austin Davis, Damion Fletcher and DeAndre Brown.  However, five months later there are major questions.  Fletcher missed spring ball due to suspension for firing a handgun outside the team’s private apartment complex.  He is said to be doing everything he needs to do to get back onto the team.  DeAndre Brown broke his leg in the aforementioned bowl game, and is still on the mend.  He is expected back for August camp, but injuries are tricky thing.

Best Fantasy Prospect(s)

Austin Davis is a dangerous dual threat under center.  In 2008, he passed for 3,134 yards and 23 TDs to go along with 508 yards and 9 TDs rushing.  He looked great this spring and should have a fantastic 2009 season.

At 6’6 and 230 pounds, DeAndre Brown may be the most physically gifted wide receiver in the country when healthy.  In his freshman campaign, he caught 67 balls for 1,117 yards and 12 touchdowns.

RB Damion Fletcher accounted for nearly 1,600 yards and 11 TDs in 2008.  Despite his legal problems, all signs point towards a return to the starting lineup in 2009.

Sleeper Prospect

If Fletcher slips up again, whoever emerges as the No. 1 RB becomes a hot fantasy commodity. Tory Harrison could be that guy.  He had one big game last year (20-136-3 vs. UAB).  V.J. Floyd and redshirt freshman Desmond Johnson are others to watch if this scenario plays out.

Biggest Question Heading into August

The health of DeAndre Brown is what all fantasy owners will be watching leading up to draft day.  As we mentioned above, Brown is on track to be ready for the season.  But any setbacks this summer could change that timeline in a hurry.  When healthy, Brown is a Top 3 fantasy WR.

Spring Game Hero

Austin Davis went 28 for 38 for 246 yards in the spring game.

Injury Report

DeAndre Brown’s recovery from a broken leg kept him out of spring drills.
