What You Need To Know

Houston is the home to perhaps the best offense in the country.  Fantasy-wise, Case Keenum is the unquestioned top quarterback in the land.  Bryce Beall is a Top 10 RB, and climbs even higher in the rankings in PPR formats. WR Tyron Carrier is also a Top 10 fantasy threat at his position.

Best Fantasy Prospect(s)

Case Keenum is a no brainer.  He passed for 5,020 yards and 44 touchdowns in 2008, and also added 221 yards and 7 TDs on the ground.

Bryce Beall rushed for 1,247 yards and 13 touchdowns as a freshman.  He also caught 34 balls for 496 yards and 4 touchdowns.  His stats are particularly impressive since he didn’t begin the year as the feature back.

Tyron Carrier caught 80 passes for 1,026 yards and 9 touchdowns a year ago.  He figures to be the top receiver in the passing game.

Sleeper Prospect

There are many to choose from.  With the reliable TE/WR Mark Hafner graduating, there will be a battle for his team-leading 86 receptions this fall.  Here are a few names to file away:

WR James Cleveland is a transfer from Iowa who earned Freshman All-Big Ten honors a few years ago.  He looked good this spring and could make an immediate impact.

Highly touted incoming freshman WR A.J. Dugat should see the field this fall.  He is a burner in the Tyron carrier mold.  Can he make a splash in year one?  Or

WR/TE Wes Scourten is an intriguing prospect.  He’s 6’6 and 240 pounds with good speed and sure hands.  With his size, he could be classified as a tight end on the roster - which is extremely important in fantasy circles.  If Scourten is indeed listed as a TE, he becomes a viable fantasy option.

For those of you who are conspiracy theorists, freshman RB Charles Sims is someone to watch.  There are rumblings that he could see some significant time this fall.  The question is:  how much time?  Sims has that break-away speed that Beall lacks, and coaches are said to be very high on him.  We’re not jumping off the Beall bandwagon, but keep an eye on this Sims kid this fall.

Biggest Question Heading into August

Can WR Patrick Edwards return from his broken leg injury to play at full strength this fall?  The news we are hearing from Cougars camp is mixed on this topic.

Where does L.J. Castille stand in this offense?  Will he become the No. 2 receiver or get lost in the shuffle?  He’s a tough one to figure out.

Spring Game Hero

The spring game was cut short in the first quarter by a thunderstorm.

Injury Report

Edwards is on the mend from his nasty broken leg suffered during the 2008 season.

RB Andre Kohn, last year’s No. 2 man, tore his ACL and miniscus.  His status is a bit uncertain at this time.
