What You Need To Know

Danny Hope takes over for Joe Tiller after serving as his offensive line coach. The spring got off to a rocky start as potential QB starter Justin Siller was suspended for the 2009 season.  Joey Elliott will likely get the job.  The Purdue offensive system will not change, despite Tiller’s retirement.  However, there will be fresh faces at nearly every position.

Best Fantasy Prospect(s)

RB Jaycen Taylor missed all of 2008 with a knee injury.  He is a multi-dimensional threat who will likely take over the RB duties from the departed Kory Sheets.  Will he be 100% mentally and physically ready for action in September?  These knee injuries are tricky.  Consider Taylor a late round possibility in BCS leagues.

Sleeper Prospect

With Desmond Tardy and Greg Orton graduating, WR Keith Smith could be one to step to the forefront.  He had a strong spring.

If Taylor isn’t fully recovered from his injury, keep an eye on RB Ralph Bolden.  He was a workhorse in the spring game.

Biggest Question Heading into August

Coach Hope still wants to sling the ball around on offense, but will the Boilers have anyone step up to catch those balls?  Someone - perhaps Mr. Smith - is going to have to step up from this inexperienced WR crew.

Spring Game Hero

RB Ralph Bolden was a workhorse, rushing 26 times for 153 yards and two scores.

Injury Report

Jaycen Taylor was held out of spring workouts as he recovers from his knee injury.
