How will the Wildcats replace QB C.J. Bacher and RB Tyrell Sutton? Mike Kafka seems to have locked down the QB position, and the Wildcats appear to have a couple solid options at RB.
Heading into spring, RB Stephen Simmons would be the choice here. However, as practice drew to a close, converted WR Jeravin Mathews has thrown his name into the mix. Watch this one closely in August camp.
QB Mike Kafka could be a quality bye week replacement. Kafka is famous for two performances last fall. Against Minnesota, he passed for 143 yards and 2 scores, while adding a whopping 217 yards on the ground. That is not a misprint: 217 yards. The next week, against Ohio State, he passed for 177 yards and rushed for a respectable 83 yards and a TD.
Jeravin Mathews got all the buzz this spring, after making the switch from WR to RB. He’s lightning quick and the coaching staff will do their best to get him the ball in space. He needs to improve on running between the tackles.
Who will catch the rock? Jeremy Ebert, Andrew Brewer and Drake Dunsmore will try to fill the void left by Eric Peterman, Rasheed Ward and Ross Lane.
Jeravin Mathews rushed 15 times for 90 yards and a TD. Simmons had 7 carries for 47 yards and a score.
Receivers Jeremy Ebert and Drake Dunsmore missed the spring game with minor injuries.
