What You Need To Know

East Lansing was home for one of the best quarterback battles in the country this spring.  Oklahoma-transfer Keith Nichol and Kirk Cousins both impressed, and the competition will bleed into fall camp.

Best Fantasy Prospect(s)

With uncertainty at QB and RB, TE Charlie Gantt might be the best fantasy option at the moment.  Gantt had a solid 2008 campaign, and Sparty does a good job of utilizing their TEs.

Sleeper Prospect

With most positions in a state of flux, MSU is littered with sleeper prospects.  We’re going to keep our eyes on incoming freshman RBs Larry Caper and Edwin Baker. Both were highly touted prep stars who have a chance to make a significant contribution this fall.

WR Keshawn Martin is another guy to watch, but the youngster will have to compete for touches with the more experienced Mark Dell, Blair White and B.J. Cunningham.  Martin might make his true fantasy impact in 2010.

Biggest Question Heading into August

The QB battle has been well-documented, but equally important from a fantasy standpoint is the shakeup at RB, now that stud Javon Ringer is playing on Sundays.  While Ashton Leggett might have a “leg up” on Andre Anderson, Caulton Ray and Glenn Winston (who was sentenced to jail), nothing is set in stone - leaving the door open for Caper and Baker to get their shot when they arrive on campus.  RBBC is a real possibility, at least in the early part of the year while the coaches sort things out.

Spring Game Hero

Both QBs impressed in a high scoring affair. Cousins went 29-43 for 357 yards, while Nichol completed 20 of 28 passes also for 357 yards, including a 73 yard bomb to WR Keshawn Martin.

Injury Report

Not an injury per se, but RB Glenn Winston was sentenced to 180 days of jail time.
