What You Need To Know

Matt Grothe returns for his senior swan song season.  He will be playing for his third offensive coordinator in four years.  The offensive line must replace four seniors.  The running back position remains an open competition.

Best Fantasy Prospect(s)

QB Matt Grothe is clearly the best fantasy option for the Bulls.  He’s posted between 22 and 24 touchdowns in each of his first three seasons, and should fall right in that vacinity again in 2009.

Sleeper Prospect

Nobody really stands out as a potential breakout player in 2009, but QB/WR Evan Landi is an intriguing guy.  He is in a battle for the backup QB job, but coaches love his ability and may get him on the field as a receiver this fall.  He is certainly one to watch in 2010.

Biggest Question Heading into August

Will RB Mike Ford ever live up to his hype?  The former 5-star recruit who originally signed with Alabama, has been a frustrating fantasy player to follow over the past couple years.  The USF RB job is up for grabs, and Ford will once again be in the mix for carries.  Jamar Taylor and Mo Plancher appear to be his main competition for carries.

Spring Game Hero

With Grothe safely tucked away on the sideline for most of the game, it was a day for the backup quarterbacks. B.J. Daniels finished 11-for-19 with 181 yards passing, with three touchdown strikes. Evan Landi impressed with a 20-for-30 and 189-yard showing, throwing two touchdowns. Grothe played only in the first quarter and threw for 26 yards.

Injury Report

RB Jamar Taylor missed most of spring drills after shoulder surgery.  WR Jessie Hester Jr. tore ligaments in his ankle this spring.  WR A.J. Love spent the spring recovering from the ACL injury suffered in the bowl game.  All are hoping to be ready to roll this August.
