Last year, UConn was home to the leading rusher in college football, Donald Brown. With Brown now suiting up for the Indianapolis Colts, the search is on to fill his shoes.
First year offensive coordinator Joe Moorhead, who came over from Akron, has installed a no-huddle offense that will look to spread the ball around. Certainly sounds a lot different than the run-first approach we’ve come to expect in Storrs.
The Huskies don’t figure to be a popular draft day destination, unless you’re in a Big East only league. RBs Jordan Todman and Andre Dixon might be worth late round consideration, depending on the depth of your league’s talent pool, but don’t expect either to approach Brown’s ridiculous numbers from a year ago.
QB Zach Frazer, assuming he can hold off Cody Endres for the starting job, should benefit from the new offensive philosophy. He’s certainly excited about the possiblities, as evidenced in this quote: “It’s going to be a completely different approach to playing the game. We’re going to put up 40 points a game. We’ll be a high-scoring, fast-tempo offense. I love it.”
Who will be the No. 1 RB? And will he get the lion’s share of the carries? Todman currently sits atop the depth chart, but Dixon could split the snaps or even become the top dog by the opening kickoff.
Todman rushed for a team-high 65 yards on 9 carries, while Dixon added 43 yards on 9 attempts. For what it’s worth, Todman started the game.
WR Brad Kanuch broke his collarbone and missed the last week of spring camp.
