What You Need To Know

Texas Tech loses all-time greats Graham Harrell and Michael Crabtree, plus productive playmakers Shannon Woods and Eric Morris.  However, the Red Raiders will likely reload and continue to light up the scoreboard in 2009.

Best Fantasy Prospect(s)

Taylor Potts will take over as the No. 1 quarterback.  He is raw, but possesses a stronger arm than Harrell.  While Potts likely won’t match Harrell’s 5,111 yards, 45 touchdown passes, or 70 percent completion percentage in 2009, he’ll be a hot commodity on draft day.

With Shannon Woods out of the mix, Baron Batch figures to be the top RB prospect for the Red Raiders.  He accounted for 1,200 total yards and eight scores last fall.  Harrison Jeffers and Aaron Crawford will try to unseat Batch for playing time.

Detron Lewis is the safest bet at wide receiver.  He caught 76 balls for 913 yards and three touchdowns in 2008.  He should eclipse the 1,000 yard barrier this fall, but he will have to get in the endzone much more often to warrant top 10-20 WR fantasy consideration?

Sleeper Prospect

Nobody fits the definition of sleeper more than WR Alex Torres.  He came out of nowhere this spring and really impressed the coaching staff, practicing with the first team.  Can he hang onto the starting job?  Stay tuned in August camp.

Biggest Question Heading into August

A usual, there are questions as to who will emerge as the Texas Tech No. 2 receiver.  Lyle Leong is the name most associate with this role.  However, others have thrown their name into the mix.  The aforementioned Alex Torres is someone to keep an eye on.  Ed Britton and Tramain Swindall return as experienced veterans.  Highly touted incoming freshman Eric Ward enrolled in school in January and could make an impact.

Spring Game Hero

Potts went 20-of-27 for 211 yards and a touchdown.

Injury Report

Lyle Leong battled minor injuries and was held out of spring practice for precautionary reasons.
