What You Need To Know
There are major losses from the Huskers 2008 passing game. QB Joe Ganz is gone, as are their top two receivers Nate Swift and Todd Peterson. The offense could depend more on the running game in 2009, which is good news for Roy Helu and Quentin Castille fans.
Best Fantasy Prospect(s)
Roy Helu drew rave reviews this spring before injuring his hamstring. He packed on 15 pounds of muscle and is expected to be a big part of the running game (1,069 total yards and 7 TDs in 2008). He won’t have to fight for carries with Marlon Lucky, who graduates, but he will have to contend with the talented Quentin Castille, who rushed for nearly 600 total yards and six scores a year ago.
Sleeper Prospect
The often overlooked Mike McNeill is the leading returning pass catcher for Big Red (32-442-6). If the new Husker QB isn’t a complete disaster, McNeill is poised to be a Top 10-15 fantasy tight end.
Biggest Question Heading into August
Can Zac Lee produce at the quarterback position? By most accounts, he had a strong spring and the starting job is his to lose. Who will he be throwing passes to? Swift and Peterson graduate, and their 125 catches, 1,700 yards and 14 touchdowns will be difficult to match. Senior Chris Brooks will do his best to help fill the void.
Spring Game Hero
QB Zac Lee completed 15-of-18 passes for 214 yards and three scores.
Injury Report
The aforementioned Roy Helu missed half of spring camp with a pulled hamstring. He should be fine for 2009.
