KANSAS STATE

What You Need To Know

Bill Snyder is back at the helm as the Kansas State head coach.  In his first stint in Manhattan, Snyder was known for developing running QBs like Michael Bishop and El Roberson.  This time around, he inherits a trio of dropback passers.  It should be interesting to see what kind of offense Snyder employs this fall.

Noteworthy: QB Josh Freeman was a first round NFL draft pick.  WR Deon Murphy left the program this off-season.

Best Fantasy Prospect(s)

Star QB Josh Freeman is off to the NFL, but the electric Brandon Banks returns.  The 5’6 150-pound jitterbug caught 67 balls for 1,049 yards and nine TDs in 2008.  This year, Coach Snyder has hinted he might use Banks in more of a Jeremy Maclin role, getting him the ball more in the running game.  Banks only had 7 carries last fall (by comparison, Maclin had 40).

Sleeper Prospect

We’re intrigued by likely starting QB Carson Coffman.  He did well in a backup role last fall, completing 25-of-41 for 282 yards and a score.  He exploded in this year’s spring game, passing for 334 yards and three TDs.

Biggest Question Heading into August

Who will tote the rock for the Wildcats?  With Lamark Brown moving to WR, and Logan Dold being used as a safety, Keithen Valentine figures to be the main guy to start the season.  Valentine rushed 34 times for 129 yards and a score in 2008.  He did well in the spring game, posting a 20-92-2 statline.

Spring Game Hero

The trio of Coffman, Banks and Valentine all impressed.  Coffman went 25-for-36 for 334 yards and three touchdowns.  Banks caught 6 balls for 141 and a TD.  As mentioned above, Valentine rushed for 92 yards and two scores.

Injury Report

Nothing major to report.
