CFG Contributor Kevin Mount takes a sneak (pardon the pun) peek at some under-the-radar college fantasy football players to consider this week.

Quarterbacks

Dave Shinskie QB Boston College vs. Florida State:  This 25 year old freshman made the most of his 1st career start last week as he torched Wake Forest for 3 touchdowns. This week he gets to face a Florida State defense that plays putrid pass defense as shown by their 115th national ranking. I have a feeling this former minor league baseball player will find more success this weekend in Chestnut Hill.

Paul McCall QB Florida International vs. La- Monroe:  The senior leader of the Golden Panthers had a solid game last week against Toledo in which he accounted for 240 yards and 3 total touchdowns. Now he gets to take his shot against a very vulnerable Louisiana Monroe secondary that allows just over 250 yards per game. This game should be a high scoring affair and McCall should post excellent fantasy numbers.

Omar Clayton QB UNLV vs. Nevada:  Coming off a tough loss, this Rebel will look to pounce all over a very porous Nevada defense. This Wolf Pack team might be just what the doctor ordered for the Rebels as they allow a ridiculous 312 yards per game in the air. It looks to be a safe bet to see at least 275 yards and 3 TD’s from Clayton this week. Start him with confidence.

Running Backs

David Wilson RB Virginia Tech vs. Duke: Even though he is not the starter for the Hokies, this talented youngster should see plenty of action in a blow out game with Duke. The Hokies will run the ball all day long and that should equate to 10-15 carries for Wilson. Those carries should be good for 100 yards and at least 1 touchdown.

Adam Robinson/Brandon Wegher RB Iowa vs. Arkansas State: These two running backs were listed as co-starters versus Penn State last week and both ran very well. This week they face a surprisingly tough Red Wolves defense, but those numbers might be inflated because they have not faced a quality running team like Iowa. I think both backs should get 17-20 carries and should both have nice fantasy days. I like Robinson for 100 yards and 1-2 touchdowns and Wegher for 80 yards and a TD.

Jay Finley RB Baylor vs. Kent State:  This one is a bit risky as he is battling an ankle injury but he has been upgraded to probable against Kent State. The Golden Flashes give up a bunch of yards on the ground and Baylor should look to pound the ball this week as they are without stud QB Robert Griffin for the rest of the season. Assuming he is healthy enough to go, a 100 yards game should be in Finley’s future.

Doug Martin RB Boise State vs. Cal-Davis: This converted defensive back filled in admirable as the #2 running back for the Broncos last week against Bowling Green. He ran for 116 yards and scored a touchdown. This week should prove a success for Martin as he faces an inferior Cal-Davis team. I think he has a good shot at cracking the 100-yard plateau again this Saturday.

Wide Receiver

Tori Gurley WR South Carolina vs. South Carolina State: This talented freshman has proven to be the go to guy in the Cock’s passing game. He has had 4 catches in every game this year and has had an unbelievable 4 touchdown receptions nullified by penalties. I think his luck will turn around and he will find the end zone this week against an outmatched Bulldogs team. I’m looking for 100 yards and a TD this week out of Gurley.

James Johnson WR Washington vs. Notre Dame: This Husky looks to be the favorite target of quarterback Jake Locker. This week he gets to face a Notre Dame pass defense that has not stopped many opposing offenses thus far in 2009. The Huskies will put the ball in the air early and often against the Golden Domers so expect a nice game out of Johnson. Something along the lines of 75 yards and a TD would seem to be reasonable.

Tight End

Kevin Koger TE Michigan vs. Michigan State: This athletic big man has been a nice surprise for the Wolverines. He should find plenty of open space this week against a Spartans’ defense that just got torched for 3 scores against Wisconsin tight end, Garrett Graham. This contest could be high scoring and I fully expect Koger to be right in the mix.

Kicker Special

Alex Tejada K Arkansas/Randy Bullock K Texas A&M: We usually don’t go down this path, but this game is too juicy to not mention these footballers. This should be the fantasy game of the week with neither team playing anything that resembles defense, so both of these kickers should have plenty of scoring opportunities.

Defenses:

North Carolina vs. Virginia
Cincinnati vs. Miami Ohio
South Carolina vs. South Carolina State
