In our expanding fantasy football coverage, we have looked into the preseason values involved with salary cap league rankings.

In a salary cap league, you can’t just look at player projections. You must be able to identify the value of a player since you are forced to make hard decisions to keep your payroll under the cap. There are several things that have to be evaluated in order to discover a player’s true value in a salary cap league.

We formulated our numerical value based on two factors:

* Points Per Game projection provided by our Big Board
* Salary prices provided from Head2Head.com

We plugged those factors into our formula to produce what we like to call a “Salary Value” rating.

Our Salary Cap League Rankings have been divided by the players’ ranking by tiers in our Big Board, then ranked within that tier based off of the Salary Value ratings. It is important to find the players that will give you the most value for every million you spend on his salary. By dividing these rankings by Big Board tiers, you can identify good value at different salary and points per game levels. Our list will now help you identify these players with greater ease.

Geek’s Evaluation:
Wide receiver is the position of value this season. There are a bunch of guys that will produce well at a low price.

This is the position where you need to lock down a couple of players that you have faith in that come at a low price. Our top 4 favorite picks all fit this bill with Wes Kemp, Greg Little, Vidal Hazelton, and Jermaine Kearse. Consistency will be a key to these guys. If you win the lottery and they are studs…great! But odds are that you just want these guys to be steady producers while you lean on your studs to do the “heavy lifting” in your line-up. So as you search for good value selections, think about consistent production.

If you are going to roll with a couple of these value players, it means that you will have to get the best WR you can with the money that’s left. This will be one of your more difficult roster decisions.

If you have the cap room to go big, we like Mohamed Sanu’s price for the production. But there are risks of games where he isn’t used heavily in blowout wins (ground game dominates), while other games he runs more wildcat and pts up big points. So he has a high ceiling but is a bit volatile for your lone stud WR. If you want someone more stable in the same price range go for guys like Jeff Fuller and Armon Binns.

Geek’s Favorite Salary Players:
Wes Kemp (Missori) - $5 million
Greg Little (North Carolina) - $3.7 million (Assuming the NCAA doesn't drop the hammer on Little for agent contact)
Vidal Hazelton (Cincinnati) - $3.5 million
Jermaine Kearse (Washington) - $6.5 million
Mohamed Sanu (Rutgers) - $12.2 million

Report Parameters:
Player Pool:  BCS + Notre Dame
