In our expanding fantasy football coverage, we have looked into the preseason values involved with salary cap league rankings.

In a salary cap league, you can’t just look at player projections. You must be able to identify the value of a player since you are forced to make hard decisions to keep your payroll under the cap. There are several things that have to be evaluated in order to discover a player’s true value in a salary cap league.

We formulated our numerical value based on two factors:

* Points Per Game projection provided by our Big Board
* Salary prices provided from Head2Head.com

We plugged those factors into our formula to produce what we like to call a “Salary Value” rating.

Our Salary Cap League Rankings have been divided by the players’ ranking by tiers in our Big Board, then ranked within that tier based off of the Salary Value ratings. It is important to find the players that will give you the most value for every million you spend on his salary. By dividing these rankings by Big Board tiers, you can identify good value at different salary and points per game levels. Our list will now help you identify these players with greater ease.

Geek’s Evaluation:
There is some good value that can be had at running back this season. Although the big names like Quizz Rodgers, Dion Lewis, Shane Vereen, and John Clay are good plays as a top RB, Jordan Todman and Daniel Thomas provide a bit more value for the salary dollar.

Jordan Todman should be on everyone’s team that reads this article! He is the best value for a high production running back – PERIOD.

There is good value with a number of the backs in our Tier 1 with the likes of Thomas, DeMarco Murray, and Ryan Williams. Although there is a dropoff in production after our Tier 2 group, the price drop that occurs at that point makes me want to avoid everyone except Montel Harris in the 2nd tier group.

There are some real cheap steals at WR this year. Since you will have to pay top dollar for your QB, you need to maximize your RB selections. I suggest grabbing Todman as your RB1, using your flex spot on one of these Tier 1 RBs, then go after guys like Washaun Ealey or Damien Berry as your RB2. These guys give great value for their low price, and when combined with an approach of using 2 cheap WRs; it frees up the cap room to grab a stud RB for your flex.

Geek’s Favorite Salary Players:
Jordan Todman (Connecticut) - $12.9 million
Daniel Thomas (Kansas State) - $13.2 million
Washaun Ealey (Georgia) - $6.4 million
Montel Harris (Boston College) – $12.6 million
Damien Berry (Miami, FL) - $5.8 million
