There are some nice looking match-ups in week 1 that could be a bit deceiving. Here is a short list of potential “trap” match-ups for week 1:
Murray State vs. Kent State – Eugene Jarvis looks like an all world RB against Murray State, but we still don’t know what type of shape he will be in coming back from his lacerated kidney. He could blow up huge, or just be average.
Florida A&M vs. Miami (FL) – Miami will put up lots of points in this one. The problem is that the stats might get spread around so much that no single player comes out as a fantasy stud. Jacory Harris has the best chance but the group of RBs could steal many scoring opportunities.
North Dakota vs. Idaho – Idaho has a number of sleeper players on their offense. The North Dakota match-up should be a good indicator for how well they can play. But the offensive line has been overhauled and the uncertainty upfront could turn into uncertainty in your fantasy line-up. You might want to wait one week before starting any Idaho players.
Sacramento State vs. Stanford – This looks to be a game for the Cardinal to work the kinks out of the retooled running game. Luck should be okay, but he shouldn’t put up big numbers until conference play begins. Outside of WR Ryan Whalen, all the other Stanford fantasy options have a strong chance of being marginal this week.
North Dakota State vs. Kansas – Kansas has a lot of growing up to do on offense. There is only one seasoned player and that is WR Johnathan Wilson. Placing him in your starting line-up would only be a possibility if you are hurting at WR already. But the rest of the other Jayhawks players still have a lot to prove. It might just be best to leave these guys on the bench in week one so you can gauge the shape of the new offense.
Southern Utah vs. Wyoming – Although Wyoming should have no trouble moving the ball, the key question is how they will move the ball. Wyoming tends to run the ball more when they face cupcakes. RB Sylvester looks to be the best fantasy options, but don’t get caught thinking the passing game will take off.
Arkansas Pine-Bluff vs. UTEP – With the news of RB Donald Buckram being injured in practice, there is now a bunch of uncertainty surrounding how this one will play out. If Buckram returns it would be hard to see him play very long as they make sure not to wear him down. If Buckram doesn’t play, the ground game will be marginal. The passing game “could” take off, but it’s a big gamble on short notice. It might be best to avoid all UTEP players this week in order to play it safe.
