Want to know what’s been happening with some of the most important fantasy football position battles over the last week? We’ve got you covered with all the latest news and analysis from around the country.
The Participants: Matt Scott, Nick Foles
The Skinny: Both QBs split snaps in last weekend’s scrimmage with no clear cut leader. Scott was 10-18 for 78 yards and 1 INT, while Foles. 10-15 for 97 yards and 1 TD. Ever since spring practice began, nether QB has been able to make any ground on the other.
The Leader: Matt Scott / Nick Foles
The Participants: Carson Coffman, Grant Gregory
The Skinny: Carson Coffman has had the edge over the first part of fall camp , but now South Florida transfer Grant Gregory has pulled even with Coffman.
The Leader: Carson Coffman / Grant Gregory
The Participants: Giorgio Morgan, Anthony Magazu, Spencer Keith
The Skinny: After the team’s first scrimmage head coach Doug Martin named junior Giorgio Morgan the team’s starting QB.
The Leader: Giorgio Morgan
The Participants: Brad McGuire, Chris Mason
The Skinny: The team’s first scrimmage was set-up to cap offensive drives at 7 plays, giving the defense a slight advantage. The defense played great and impacted the results of the QBs. Brad McGuire struggled going 11-21 for 140 yards and 3 INTs. Chris Mason was18-30 for 178 yards. Both QBs are still in a dead heat.
The Leader: Brad McGuire / Chris Mason
The Participants: Jordan Jefferson, Russell Sheppard
The Skinny: Both QBs played well in the team’s first scrimmage last weekend. Jordan Jefferson appears to have a solid lead, but Russell Sheppard will see the field this fall. During the scrimmage, Sheppard played at QB, RB, and WR. Don’t be surprised to see some form of a wildcat package put into play.
The Leader: Jordan Jefferson
The Participants: Lyle Moevao, Sean Canfield
The Skinny: Sean Canfield was named the starting QB after Lyle Moevao has been held back by a slow recovery from shoulder surgery. The announcement isn’t official yet, but this is a sure bet.
The Leader: Sean Canfield
The Participants: Aaron Corp, Matt Barkley, Mitch Mustain
The Skinny: Aaron Corp could be back on the practice field in one week. Matt Barkley struggled early in the most recent scrimmage against the first team defense, but settled in and played well to finish. Mitch Mustain was very consistent and produced the best passing stats on the day.
The Leader: Matt Barkley / Aaron Corp
The Participants: Corbin Louks, Terrance Cain, Jordan Wynn
The Skinny: The first official depth chart was listed with true freshman Jordan Wynn listed as the starter, followed by Terrance Cain and then Corbin Louks. Louks was surprised by his third string finish and has decided to transfer to Nevada. Things are not totally set in stone, but as long as Wynn continues his play you can expect him to be the starter in game 1.
The Leader: Jordan Wynn
The Participants: Karsten Sween, Robert Benjamin, Austyn Carta-Samuels
The Skinny: All three QBs looked great in the first scrimmage of fall camp, but then the offense struggled in the second scrimmage. Karsten Sween was on the first team for scrimmage #1, but he was overtaken by Robert Benjamin for the scrimmage #2.
The Leader: Robert Benjamin
The Participants: Caleb King, Richard Samuel, Carlton Thomas
The Skinny: Caleb King remains out of action with a hamstring injury after a subpar start to fall camp. That has opened the door for Richard Samuel and Carlton Thomas. Both Samuel and Thomas had good performances in the team’s most recent scrimmage, but it appears that Samuel is beginning to pull away from Thomas.
The Leader: Richard Samuel
The Participants: Jewel Hampton, Jeff Brinson, Brandon Wegner
The Skinny: Jewel Hampton re-aggravated his injured knee over the weekend. This is a sign that his knee is not near the strength needed to be counted on as the main RB. As long as he continues to push his knee too hard, expect to see these re-aggravations continue to pop up as the year goes on. The real question is just how effective has he been when he has been on the field? As of now, we just don’t know.
The Leader: Jeff Brinson / Jewel Hampton
The Participants: Keithen Valentine, Daniel Thomas, Jarell Childs, Josh Hubert
The Skinny: Head Coach Bill Snyder is gushing over the depth he has at RB. Valentine and Thomas are the most complete backs. Childs is a big power back, while true freshman Hubert has a knack for the big play.
The Leader: Keithen Valentine / Daniel Thomas
The Participants: Curtis Steele, Lance Smith
The Skinny: The coaches are starting to rave about the skills that Lance Smith brings to the table. The word is that Smith will be used extensively, but Steele will remain the starter.
The Leader: Curtis Steele
The Participants: Duane Bennett, DeLeon Eskridge, Kevin Whaley
The Skinny: Head coach Tim Brewster made the notion that a starter may not be named until the week of the Sept. 5th game against Syracuse. He isn’t giving any news as to who is leading the pack. The only comment that can be taken for consideration is that Brewster mentioned that Bennett “…is the most complete back,” and has been running with the first team throughout camp. Odds are that all 3 RBs will see the field though.
The Leader: Duane Bennett
The Participants: Vai Taua, Luke Lippincott, Michael Ball
The Skinny: There was no insights after the Wolfpack concluded their first scrimmage of the season as to how the RB situation will shake out. Taua had 13 yards on 6 carries, Lippincott had 46 yards on 3 carries, but the newcomer of the group is Michael Ball who gained 46 yards on 7 carries. We expect RBBC, but we still don’t know just how all the carries will shake out. UPDATE: Taua was arrested on misdemeanor charges recently, but is not expected to be demoted or miss any time.
The Leader: Vai Taua / Luke Lippincott
The Participants: Me’co Brown, Chad Spann, Justin Anderson
The Skinny: Things continue to look like a logjam after the team’s first scrimmage. Chad Spann was the day’s leading rusher with Me’co brown right behind him and followed by Anderson. All three RBs scored a TD. Brown and Spann had the same amount of carries, Anderson had just two less.
The Leader: Chad Spann / Me’co Brown / Justin Anderson
The Participants: Montario Hardesty, Bryce Brown
The Skinny: Bryce brown left Monday’s early after injuring his hip. The injury doesn’t appear to be serious. But the NCAA is investigating Brown’s eligibility for allegedly receiving improper benefits during his recruitment from other schools. This could limit how many games Brown could play in for 2009.
The Leader: Montario Hardesty
The Participants: Josh Oglesby, Ryan Williams, David Wilson
The Skinny: Josh Oglesby was working his way to becoming the starter, but a new hamstring pull and infection in his heel has left him out of the race for now. Running backs coach Billy Hite commented that freshman David Williams had come into camp over weight and out of shape, but he now appears to be in shape and has grabbed the #1 spot on the depth chart….for now.
The Leader: David Wilson
The Participants: Jared Perry, Jerrell Jackson, Rolandis Woodland
The Skinny: After last weekend’s scrimmage, Jared Perry was demoted to the second team. Jerrell Jackson and Rolandis Woodland are splitting reps with the first team. We expect this to be temporary since Perry is the leading returning WR from last year’s team.
The Leader: Jerrell Jackson / Rolandis Woodland
