Here's a look at the top wide receiver surprises and disappointments in the first half of the 2011 college fantasy football season.

More Mid-Term Reports:
Quarterbacks
Running Backs
Wide Receivers
Tight Ends

Surprises:

1.     A.J. Jenkins, Georgia Tech
46 receptions, 815 yards, 7 TD
Jenkins has quickly become sophomore QB Nathan Scheelhaase’s favorite receiver in 2011, and is second in the nation in both receiving yards and touchdowns, including five in the past two games. Some of the better defenses in the Big Ten are coming up on the schedule, and they will be sure to focus their attention on Jenkins considering he is practically the only true weapon they have on offense. His production should continue.

2.     Quinton Patton, Louisiana Tech
45 receptions, 635 yards, 5 TD
Coming into 2011, Tech was about 6-7 deep at wideout, but nobody was considered a game-changer. They were pretty much just bodies. Well it seems as if freshman Nick Isham has found his favorite target in Patton. What stands out is he has done his best work against better teams such as Houston and Mississippi State. That is a good indicator for things to come.

3.     Sammy Watkins, Clemson
38 receptions, 623 yards, 6 TD
Probably looking at the front-runner for ACC Freshman of the Year right here with Watkins. The frosh has touchdowns in four of six games this year, as well as three 100-yard performances. Hopefully the Boyd injury does not hamper his production because Watkins is on his way to having a special season just in his first year.

Honorable Mention:
- Deon Long (New Mexico), Darrin Moore (Texas Tech), Keith Sconiers (Akron), Colin Lockett (San Diego State), Eric Thomas (Troy), Bryan Burnham (Tulsa), Stephen Hill (Georgia Tech)

Disappointments:

1.     Damaris Johnson, Tulsa
N/A- Suspended
Hopefully you didn’t go this route with your No. 1 wideout. Johnson was suspended indefinitely prior to the start of the season and it does not look like he will be reinstated anytime soon. It’s disappointing as well considering he ended 2010 as the NCAA career leader in all-purpose yards. Next time you’ll be hearing this name will be in your NFL fantasy football drafts.

2.     Juron Criner, Arizona
26 receptions, 340 yards, 3 TD
Criner’s medical conditions have really hampered is production this year. After thinking he may miss the entire 2011 season, Criner came on to have a 151-yard game in Week 1. Since then, he has failed to top the 100-yard mark, and is now dealing with more injuries. It’s not a terrible start statistically, but it’s not looking like things will get much better for Criner and the Wildcats.

3.     James Rodgers, Oregon State
14 receptions, 149 yards, 1 TD
Another case where the injury bug has taken its toll. Rodgers has been on the field the past three weeks after missing the first three, but has had minimal impact for a bad Oregon State squad. When healthy, Rodgers is one of the best all-around weapons in the nation. If he can get back to that level is going to be a wait-and-see approach, but his production should increase as he gets back into the groove of things.

Honorable Mention:
- Mike Willie (Arizona State), Keyshawn Martin (Michigan State), Deonte Thompson (Florida), T.J. Jones (Notre Dame), Josh Huff (Oregon), Mike Shanahan (Pittsburgh), Darius Bright (Hawaii), Jeff Fuller (Texas A&M)
