It's hard to believe, but we've already reached the mid-way point of the college fantasy football season. Here's a look at biggest surprises and disappointments at the QB position so far.
More Mid-Term Reports:
Quarterbacks
Running Backs
Wide Receivers
Tight Ends
Surprises:
1. Keith Price, Washington
1,209 passing yards, 17 TD
Remember during spring practices when Steve Sarkisian was trying to figure out who would be the Huskies’ starting quarterback. Well I think he made the right choice. Not only is Price in the top 10 in quarterback rating, but is tied for second in the nation in passing touchdowns with 17. Locker who?
2. Tajh Boyd, Clemson
1,742 passing yards, 15 TD, 3 rushing TD
The arrival of Chad Morris as offensive coordinator has been huge for the development of Boyd. It also helps to have stud pass-catchers in freshman Sammy Watkins and tight end Dwayne Allen. Hopefully Boyd’s recent injury does not hamper his playing time, as he has become a top fantasy quarterback.
3. Matt Schilz, Bowling Green
1,477 passing yards, 16 TD
Bowling Green may not be a juggernaut, but when it comes to fantasy production, there is some talent there to be had. Schilz is now tied for third in the nation in touchdowns and has the weapons to keep up the pace. Doesn’t hurt that the heart of their MAC schedule is coming up; which should make Schilz should be a priority pickup if still around.
Honorable Mention:
- Jordan Webb (Kansas), Seth Doege (Texas Tech), Casey Pachall (TCU), James Vandenberg (Iowa), Tyler Tettleton (Ohio), Keith Wenning (Ball State), Zach Maynard (California), Chuckie Keeton (Utah State), Marshall Lobbestael (Washington State), Mike Glennon (NC State)
Disappointments:
1. Ryan Aplin, Arkansas State
1,646 passing yards, 6 TD, 1 rushing TD
Sure, Aplin is in the top 15 in passing yards so far, but that is because Arkansas State is a terrible football team. For his whole career, Aplin has been a great swing option at QB, but I’m not so sure anymore. There is hope considering we are really just getting going in conference play, and the Sun Belt is far from being the SEC. He might be a guy available that could pick things up soon.
2. Sean Renfree, Duke
1,361 passing yards, 4 TD, 3 rushing TD
Four. Four touchdowns from Renfree in this pass-happy offense. My sleeper pick failing me right now. The only team worth mentioning that they have faced is Stanford, which you should expect a poor performance from Renfree. But to not throw for a single touchdown against Richmond!!! Unacceptable.
3. Tino Sunseri, Pittsburgh
1,166 passing yards, 5 TD, 1 rushing TD
Sigh, yet another one of my sleeper QB’s that is failing to live up to the preseason hype. I guess 400 yards in the spring game meant absolutely nothing. Not only does Sunseri not have more than two touchdowns in one game, but he has failed to pass for more than 300 yards in a single game. If I had him on my fantasy team, I would drop him immediately.
Honorable Mention:
- G.J. Kinne (Tulsa), Zac Dysert (Miami OH), Danny O’Brien (Maryland), Kyle Padron (SMU), Dan Persa (injured/Northwestern), Jeff Godfrey (Central Florida), E.J. Manuel (Florida State)
