INDEPENDENTS FANTASY SNAPSHOT
ARMY
Best Bet: RB Patrick Mealy
With Kinglsey Ehie moving from RB to LB, Mealy should see a bigger workload this fall. However, he’s not draft-worthy unless you’re in some sort of Armed Forces-only league.
Sleeper Potential: QB Trent Steelman
Stellman is actually one of the top rushing QBs in the nation (706 rushing yards, 5 TDs). The problem: he only averages about 10 passing attempts per game.
Big Fantasy Question: Can Mealy get all of Ehie’s carries?
If you combine Mealy and Ehie’s stats from last fall, you have an 1,100 yard, 5 TD running back.
NAVY
Best Bet: QB Ricky Dobbs
Dobbs was a rushing fiend last fall, tallying up 1,192 yards and 27 TDs on the ground to go along with 1,061 yards and 6 TDs through the air.
Sleeper Potential: FB Vince Murray
The senior-to-be rushed for 971 yards ad 6 TDs last fall. If Murray can cut into Dobbs’ ridiculous TD number a bit this fall, he’d be a nice fantasy sleeper candidate.
Big Fantasy Question: Will Murray build upon his 182 carries from last fall?
It’s difficult to predict how the carries will shake out in this offense. If Murray can get 180-200 carries in 2010, he might be worth a roster spot in deep leagues.
NOTRE DAME
Best Bet: WR Michael Floyd & TE Kyle Rudolph
Floyd is a Top 5 fantasy WR and should be drafted accordingly. For those of you playing in TE leagues, Rudolph will be one of the first TE’s off the board on draft day.
Sleeper Potential: RB Cierre Wood & WR T.J. Jones
Wood was a big-time recruit last year who looked great in the ND spring game. However, Armando Allen could be standing in the way of Wood truly exploding onto the scene this fall. Jones is a true freshman who enrolled this January and had a great spring. He has a shot to be the No. 2 WR in this offense.
Big Fantasy Question: Can Dayne Crist become an elite fantasy QB in year one?
Brian Kelly’s offensive system certainly suits Crist’s skill set, but he enters the year with virtually no playing experience.
