Thursday offered up a 14 game menu of college football goodness. Friday's slate is more of a sample size (2 games), but one of them could be a dandy. Here's what to look for in tonight's tilts.
No. 14 TCU at Baylor (ESPN, 8:00pm ET)
Whoa Nellie, we've been waiting all off-season for this bad boy. It's probably the third most anticipated game of the entire weekend after LSU-Oregon and Georgia-Boise State.
What To Watch For, Bears:
QB - Redemption will be on Robert Griffin's mind after last year woeful performance against the Frogs. He was only able to muster up 185 total yards and 1 TD in year's embarrassing 45-10 dismantling at the hands of the Frogs. RG3 is due for a national break out performance. Can he get the job done in the spotlight?
RB - Jay Finley rushed for 1,218 yards and 12 last season. He's gone now, and Terrance Ganaway has been named the starter. He's a 240-pound bruiser that could be a force on the goal line. Keep an eye on how he is used in the offense and whether or not highly regarded backup Jared Salubi is a factor.
WR - With Josh Gordon leaving campus, Kendall Wright is expected to be the clear No. 1 receiver for RG3. But will the loss of Gordon help or hurt Wright's production? He could see more double-teams in Gordon's absence.
What To Watch For, Frogs:
QB - Alright Casey Pachall, it's your show now. With Andy Dalton taking snaps in Cincy, TCU turns over the reigns to the sophomore. He was banged up a bit in fall camp. What kind of skill set does Pachall bring to the table? Can he scoot around in the pocket and take off like his predecessor? We'll find out tonight.
RB - We sense the dreaded RBBC monster will rear it's ugly head again for TCU this season. Ed Wesley is the team's RB1, but he's often injured. To keep him fresh, the coaching staff could choose to spread the ball around to Matthew Tucker and Waymon James just enough to mess with Wesley's fantasy value, which is a darned shame. Wesley suffered a minor injury last week so, once again, he enters the season at not quite 100 percent. The team rushed for 3,217 yards a year ago, and Wesley only grabbed 1,076 of those. If he could up that number to 1,300 he'd be a fantasy force.
WR - Josh Boyce is the man to watch. He lead the team with 646 receiving yards a year ago, and with Jeremy Kerley graduating, Boyce has a shot to put up bigger numbers.
Youngstown State at Michigan State (Big Ten Network, 7:30pm ET)
This one doesn't have nearly the appeal of the battle down in the Lone Star State, but there are a couple things we'll have our eye on from a fantasy perspective.
What To Watch For, Sparty:
All eyes will be on the running back situation. Edwin Baker was The Man for most of the 2010 campaign, tallying 1,201 yards and 13 scores. This year, the scuttlebutt is that Le'Veon Bell and a healthy Larry Caper will eat into his carries. Given the opponent is the Penguins of YSU, tonight might not be a great indication of how the rest of the season will shake out, but we'll be watching it closely regardless.
