CONNECTICUT News: ESPN’s Brian Bennett is reporting that running back Jordan Todman has pulled ahead of Andre Dixon in the battle for the starting RB job. CFG Analysis: If the coaches will allow one player to be the main back, then the winner of the job could be a great sleeper pick in your draft. FLORIDA News: Florida wide receiver Andre Debose

CONNECTICUT

News: ESPN’s Brian Bennett is reporting that running back Jordan Todman has pulled ahead of Andre Dixon in the battle for the starting RB job.
CFG Analysis: If the coaches will allow one player to be the main back, then the winner of the job could be a great sleeper pick in your draft.

FLORIDA

News: Florida wide receiver Andre Debose is still bothered by a hamstring injury and has missed a considerable amount of practice time.
CFG Analysis: Debose is going to have to heal up in a hurry if he wants to crack the lineup in 2009.  Stay away from Debose on draft day.

IOWA STATE

News: DesMoinesRegister.com reports that Iowa State’s top returning receiver may be the team’s top sideline cheerleader during the season-opening Sept. 3 football game against North Dakota State.  Darius Darks hasn’t recovered from a hamstring injury sustained last spring, and it’s even questionable when he will be able to practice at full speed.  “He’s missed a good bit of practice time,” coach Paul Rhoads said. “It will set him back.”
CFG Analysis: Darks was one of our top sleeper WR candidates.  This news is a concern and should be taken into consideration on draft day.

MIAMI, FL

News: Miami running back Graig Cooper returned to the practice field Wednesday without the protective boot on his right foot that kept him out of Tuesday’s practice, the Sun Sentinel reports.
CFG Analysis: Good news here.  Cooper figures to be the top running threat for the Canes this fall and is worth a look in BCS-only leagues.

NEVADA

News: Per The Nevada Sagebrush, Nevada running back Vai Taua was arrested last Friday on an outstanding warrant for a misdemeanor charge, according to the University of Nevada Reno Police Department.  Taua will not miss any games or be demoted from his starting position due to the incident, Chad Hartley, the associate director of Nevada’s media services, said. The 20-year-old was arrested for allegedly failing to provide proof of registration on a bench warrant from the city of Reno.
CFG Analysis: Doesn’t sound like too much to be concerned about, but any crack in the armor is another reason for Luke Lipponcott to get a few extra carries.

NOTRE DAME

News: Tight end Kyle Rudolph has been out of practice with a hamstring injury. There is no timetable know for his return.
CFG Analysis: Rudolph has been seen as a potential breakout player for 2009. We are beginning to get colder on Rudolph. There are a number of other TEs out there come draft day.

OREGON STATE

News: Wide receiver James Rodgers received a big hit to his knee during Wednesday’s practice. He was held out of the rest of that practice.
CFG Analysis: This is the second time this fall that James Rodgers has been held out of practice now due to injury. Since he did miss time last fall due to injury, this should raise a red flag.

PITTSBURGH

News: Sophomore wide receiver Jonathan Baldwin has been making waves this fall. He attributes his play to a new found work ethic and attitude for making a fast start this year.
CFG Analysis: Baldwin has big upside for 2009. Since his new attitude is positively impacting his play. Baldwin is a great sleeper prospect.

News: Pitt redshirt sophomore running back Shariff Harris was suspended from the team for two weeks for disciplinary reasons. Harris was battling with three other players for a spot in the tailback rotation.
CFG Analysis: In Harris’ absence, Dion Lewis and Ray Graham will see most of the first and second team reps.

PURDUE

News: Offensive coordinator Gary Nord views running backs Jaycen Taylor and Ralph Bolden as co-starters for the time being.
CFG Analysis: We don’t have much confidence in Purdue RBs this year, so avoid both Taylor and Bolden come draft day.

TULSA

News: Junior running backs Charles Clay and Jamad Williams continue to lead the way in Tulsa’s backfield. “Charles and Jamad have been really solid,” TU offensive coordinator Herb Hand said. “I think we have two great backs there and they are as good as anybody in our league. We’re going to lean on those guys.”
CFG Analysis: Clay has been lined up at tailback while Williams has played more of a fullback role.  It remains to be seen how the two will share carries.  If Clay gets the bulk of the work, he’s worthy of our Top 15 ranking.

USC

News: Quarterback Aaron Corp has been participating in throwing drills. On Wednesday, Corp was 9 of 10 in 7-on-7 drills. Matt Barkley was a perfect 10 of 10. CFG Analysis: This battle appears to be going strong, but there is no news as to when Corp can return to full contact drills. If Corp will stay out of contact drills for an extended period of time, then Barkley has a good chance of starting in the opener.
