Looking for a reason NOT to draft a top fantasy prospect this year? Hoping to be talked out of a guy in the first couple rounds? As difficult as it may be, we try to make a case against the top ten wide receivers on our Big Board.
Wide Receivers
1. Ryan Broyles (Oklahoma)
Believe it or not, the opening month of the season looks kind of tough on paper (Florida State, Air Force, Cincinnati, Texas and a BYE week). It's possible that Broyles owners will have to wait until October to see consistent, big stat games.
2. James Cleveland (Houston)
Cleveland had off-season shoulder surgery and the coaches have kept him out of harm's way this fall camp. As with past years, there are multiple fantasy-worthy Houston receivers. This can lead to inconsistent results during the coarse of the season.
3. Michael Floyd (Notre Dame)
Can Floyd stay healthy for an entire season? He will be operating under a new coach, in a new system, with a new quarterback. And there will be no Golden Tate on the other side to take away coverage. Teams will gameplan to take away Floyd each week.
4. Vincent Brown (San Diego State)
Brown was injured in the middle of last season, which allowed teammate Demarco Sampson a chance to shine in the spotlight. Sampson made his mark. This year, both return and there is a chance both reduce each other's value somewhat.
5. DeAndre Brown (Southern Miss)
Brown had a brush with the law this summer and there still has been no word on any possible punishment. Also, Brown's work ethic has been under fire by the Southern Miss coaching staff. At one point in fall camp, they bumped him down to the second team as a motivational ploy.
6. Mohammed Sanu (Rutgers)
Sanu's value is high because of his ability to run the ball. However, it is unclear whether Coach Greg Schiano will utilize Sanu much against their cupcake non-conference schedule, or whether they might "save him" for the bigger games later in the year. Sanu also has two bye weeks to contend with (Weeks 3 and 9).
7. Greg Salas (Hawaii)
Salas did his damage last year after WR Rodney Bradley was lost for the season to a broken leg. Now, Bradley is back in the fold and there will be a competition for carries. Also, after a rocky offseason, not everyone is sold on QB Bryant Moniz being The Man on the islands this fall.
8. Titus Young (Boise State)
Young will have plenty of redone touchdowns taken away from fellow wide receiver Austin Pettis. Also, Young faces a tough start against Va Tech to open the year, plus two bye weeks during the fantasy regular season.
9. Aldrick Robinson (SMU)
Aldrick was hyped prior to last fall, and he wound up being a major flop with an average 47-800-5 statline.
10. James Rodgers (Oregon State)
Rodgers will be catching balls from a new quarterback this season, and faces the 18th toughest passing SOS in the country. Also has two bye weeks in the meat of the schedule.
